Adam and Ailsha Kirkbride of the Cumberland flock, Bassenthwaite, came out on top at the Northern Stars show and sale of Valais Blacknose at Skipton, securing the champion and reserve honours.

Their champion, Cumberland Kimbo, a gimmer also went on to sell for the top price of 5200gns to an undisclosed bidder from the Welsh Borders. A daughter of Snowdonia Goliath, Kimbo is bred from the Blackertor Fandango-sired ewe, Blackertor Firefly.

Show judge Jenni McAllister, of the Highland flock from Tomintoul, awarded the male and reserve overall championship to the ram lamb, Cumberland Lorton. This March-born son of Shoemakers Victor, out of another Fandango ewe, Blackertor Freya, made 1500gns selling to the Spongo Bank flock, Crawick, Sanquhar.

After setting a new breed record at Carlisle, Tom Blackwood, Stewarton, was back in the money, selling his ewe lamb, Ayrshire Lena, for 3100gns. Sired by Kineff Jacobsen, out of a Gemstones Oli-sired ewe, she was purchased by Chris and Victoria Dixon, Fellview flock, Egremont.

Mr Blackwood also received 950gns for his reserve female champion, Ayrshire Lily, a ewe lamb by Snowdonia Hurricane, while his third prize ewe lamb, Ayrshire Luby, realised 1500gns. Both headed home with Welsh buyer, Miles Morgan, Chepstow.

Another from the same stable, Ayrshire Kimi, a gimmer then realised 2000gns when finding a new home with Chris and Victoria Dixon. A daughter of Gemstones Goliath, Kimi is out of a Moorahill dam.

Ewes peaked at 900gns for the second prize winner, Horsemill Jilly, a two-shear from Anne Garthwaite and Claire McGeorge, Middlebie, Lockerbie. By Wynner Hercules, out of Westmorland Glamour Girl, she sold to Paul Sykes, Holmfirth.
