New Cumnock-based Ryeland breeder David Mitchell of the Wellhill flock, secured the top price of 880gns at the Northern Breed sale at Carlisle.

His coloured ewe lamb, Wellhill Electra, which stood reserve female champion at the pre-sale show, is a daughter of Bryn Caffo Celt and sold to Messrs Webb, Ashford Carbonel, Ludlow.

Next at 700gns, Katie and Mark Atkinson-Shaw of the Coxwold flock, East Wildon, Thirsk, sold the coloured female champion, a gimmer by Ryeside Brigadier to Messrs Harrison, Wigton, Cumbria.

The same home sold the fourth prize shearling ram, Coxwold D’Artagnan, for 650gns to Messrs Porter, Barton, Preston. The tup is sired by Sproxton Zodiac.

The third prize gimmer, Starlight Sewell made 700gns for LM Griffiths, Sewell Houses, Southwaite, Carlisle. She is sired by Coxwold Angus and was bought by Messrs Blezard, Conder Green, Lancaster.

White Ryelands peaked at 800gns was a gimmer from Eddie and Janice Henderson, Milnathort, Kinross. Sired by Dolwen Buccaneer she was knocked down to Messrs Parry, Gaerwen, Gwynedd.

Another the same way bred and from the same home made 650gns selling to Messrs Redmayne, Ings, Kendal.

Messrs Scott, Dalry, Ayrshire, went to 650gns for Archer Divina from Simon Archer, Stone Stile, Hexham. This gimmer is a daughter of Teejay Bond.

Matching that price was the shearling ram, Street Head Danny Boy, from Caitlin Brownrigg, Hesket, Wigton. Sired by Grassknop Captain, he travels up to Brechin with Messrs Reid, Kirkton of Menmuir.
