Averages improved on the year at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ anniversary show and sale of 1067 store and breeding cattle at Quoybrae, where 466 bullocks and 475 heifers cashed in at £1522.8 (+£76.60) and £1366.70 (+£59.15) respectively.

Charolais cross bullocks led the proceedings having sold to 365.4p per kg for a pen of 405kg lots from Tongside, Scotscalder, and to £2080 for a 745kg entry from Brae Edge, Castletown.

Heifers peaked at 341.9p for a 430kg Simmental cross from Forss, Thurso, and to £1960 for a pair of 704kg Charolais crosses from Thura Mains, Bower.

At the pre-sale show, judge Ian Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar, purchased both his choice of champion and reserve.

Supreme was a 542kg British Blue heifer from DG Kennedy, Tresdale, Canisbay which made £1820, while the reserve was a 552kg Charolais cross heifer from R Coghill, Meadown Croft, Dunn that sold for £1700.

Breeding cattle (23) sold to £2600 for a Salers cow and Salers heifer calf from Cairntack, Belhelvie.
