PRICES peaked at 4200gns at the August Border and Lakeland Club show and sale of dairy cattle at Carlisle, which included the annual youngstock sale of British Friesians from Basil and Adam Lawson’s Lismulligan herd from Fife.

The club sale saw the judge, Scott Forsyth of Baltier Farms, Newton Stewart, purchase his choice of champion and reserve. Sale leader at 4200gns was the reserve champion Demire Swingman Marie, from Messrs Dennison, Scales Farm, Aldingham, Ulverston. This senior heifer is sired by Westcoast Swingman Red and bred from Denmire Capital Gain Marie 420.

The same home sold the champion, Denmire Ferraro Star, for 3800gns. A daughter of OCD Ferraro, she is out of the Ex90-classified dam, Denmire Snowy Star 40.

Dumfriesshire breeders, Brian and Craig Davidson, Errolston, Gretna, took 2900gns for Errolston Mason Win Ricki. This two-year-old is backed by home-bred genetics being a daughter of Errolston Mason and bred from 10 generations of Ex or VG. Her fourth dam was the former Highland Show champion, Formation Ricki cow. Final bidder was Stu Forshaw, Preston, Alston, Longridge.

The same home received 2800gns for Errolston Mason Kimo, purchased by Messrs McCulloch, Ardwell, Stranraer. Another by the same sire, she is out of Errolston Erdman Kimo.

Messrs Millar, Kirkpatrick Fleming, Lockerbie, paid 2800gns for Kingscaird Chief Amberley from Peter Kemp, Cairdhillock, Kingswell, Aberdeen. A Stantons Chief daughter, she is out of Drointon Twizzle Amberley.

Basil and Adam Lawson’s Lismulligan sale of 27 British Friesian bulling heifers averaged just shy of £900. Topping this section at 1500gns was Lismulligan Dawn 60, a Manorpark Google daughter purchased by the Moscrop family from Rye Close.

The mart’s Monthly Dairy Day of 250 cattle sold to a top of £2850, with 117 milking heifers averaging £2316.

The sale featured several breeds and saw demand for all classes continue to rise on the back of recent milk price rises with many dairies selling less milk than this time last year.

The Baillie family from Hillhead of Covington Farm, near Biggar, sold three of the top five highest priced lots at £2850, £2750 and £2700 to average £2641 for eight. Dearest was Covington Complex Bon, sired by Bomaz Complex and bred from a high production dam that gave over 12,000kgs. She was bought by Messrs Watson, Ochiltree, Cumnock, who also went to £2700 for Covington Gateway Molly, a Denovo Gateway daughter.

Covington Sublime Renata, by Denovo Sublime, then made £2750 selling to Messrs Paxton, Ardwell, Stranraer. The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig, Port William, sold eight heifers to average £2400, with a top of £2800 paid for a daughter of R2D2, giving 40kgs. The buyers were Messrs Forshaw, Alston, Longridge.

Jim and David Gray, Drumtall, East Kilbride, received £2700 for Drumtall Flashback Amy. A daughter of Alta Flashback, bred from a Dewars dam, she was knocked down to Messrs Millar, Kilpatrick Fleming, Lockerbie.
