Scottish dairy producers were out in force to support David and John Brewster’s Boclair Bright Futures sale of 130 Holsteins at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, which saw milking animals average in excess of £2700.

The Boclair herd was established in the 1950s by the late Jack Brewster who developed families which remain the backbone of this successful herd. Brothers David and John Brewster now own and manage the herd and have introduced other notable families to include Roxy, Dellia, Apple, Bonita, Royalty, Elegance, and Marie.

Topping the sale at 6500gns was Boclair Lambda Moove It, a January 2023-born Holstein sired by Farnear Delta-Lambda, and out of the Ex91 classified dam Absolute Archrival Moove It, which goes back to Eclipse Atwoods Archrival. She sold to Brian and Michael Yates of the Logan herd, Castle Douglas, and Kevin Lawrie of the Arranview herd, Maybole.

Andrew and Euan Lawrie of Grangehall Holsteins, Lanark, went to 6000gns for Boclair Lambda Rae. This October 2023-born heifer is bred from 11 generations of Ex cows going back to Roxy Ex97 and is out of Boclair Silver Rae Ex93, sired by Farnear Delta-Lambda.

Boclair Lambda Barbara 12 sold for 5000gns to the Forsyth family of Baltier Farms, Whithorn, Newton Stewart. Another by Delta-Lambda, she is bred from Boclair Doc Barbara which goes back to Woodcrest King Doc.

Mungo and Calum Bryson of the Whiteflat herd from Catrine, Mauchline, forked out 4500gns for Boclair Lambda Lilyan 2 VG86. Champion heifer from the Lanarkshire Herds competition, this Delta-Lambda daughter is bred from Boclair Bandares Lilyan Ex92.

Six heifers, all tracing back to KHW Regiment Apple Red, featured in the sale with two selling for 4000gns. First was Boclair Rubels Apple Red 4 purchased by Jim Boyd, Cambuslang, Glasgow. Sired by Hoogerhorst DG OH Rubels-Red, she is out of the Ex90 classified dam, Boclair Barbwire Apple Red ET.

The bulling heifer, Boclair Ranger Apple Red, matched that price tag when the hammer fell to Michael Dixon, Beech House, Aspatria, Wigton. A 3-star OH Ranger-Red daughter, she is out of Boclair Jordy Apple Red 2.

Next in the trade stakes at 3600gns was the April 2023-born heifer Boclair Ryder Asia Red 2. Sired by Koepon OH Ryder Red, she is out of Lucke Altitude Atlantic Red and found a new home with Messrs Coats, Baildon, Shipley.

Boclair Davinci Hope sold for 3500gns to Messrs Sloan, Auchinleck, Cumnock. This two-year-old is sired by Davinci and bred from the Ex90 classified dam, Boclair Casper Hope.

Andrew and Euan Lawrie, Grangehall, were back in the buying seat purchasing a further two at 3500gns, both of which are sired by Farnear Delta-Lambda. First was Boclair Lambda Joan which is out of Boclair Casper Joan ex90, with their second purchase being 3 Boclair Lambda Rae 9, bred from Boclair Doc Rae VG86.
