At C and D Auctions’ 688 lambs sold to £169 and 327p for Suffolks and Texels from Netherhall, respectively.

An entry of 2573 lambs forward for C and D Auctions’ sale averaged 304.9p per kg with a top price of 371p paid for Beltex from D Smith, Scobshaugh, Kirriemuir, or £178 for Texels from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.

Cast sheep (4478) reached £290 for Texel ewes from M and SJ Bell, Hensol, Kirkcudbright.

Cast cattle sold to 223p for a Whitebred Shorthorn from G Bell and Co, Bloch, Langholm or £1328 for a South Devon from J Thomson and Partners, Howcleugh, Hawick.

Stirling (UA)

Some 6984 sheep comprising 3696 lambs and 3288 cast sheep through United Auctions saw lambs average 301.02p having sold to 357p per kg for Beltex from Easterton or to £181 for Beltex from Cuilt Farmhouse.

Cast sheep reached £250 for Texel ewes from Achnaba.

Stirling (Cally)

Limousins led Caledonian Marts’ sale of 21 heifers and 24 bullocks which averaged 313.45p and 284.43p respectively.

Heifers sold to 330p for a 552kg entry from A Pettigrew, Faskine and to £2055 from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw.

Bullocks reached 325p for a 626kg stot from Learielaw and £2269.20 for a 732kg entry from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres.

Young bulls (19) averaged 251.56p and sold to 280p for a Limousin from both R Cook, Kinneil Mill and J and J MacPherson, Pitsundry or to £2343 for another Limousin from A MacGregor, Allanfauld.

Cast cattle averaged 185.26p having peaked at 223p for a Limousin cow from GR Aitken, Traprain or £1960 for a Simmental cow from J Brown, Greencraig.

On Tuesday1063 lambs averaged 291.62p having sold to 373p for a Texel from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing, Denny or £175 for Beltex from JM McDonald, Newbigging, Crieff.

Cast sheep (677) reached £231 for a Texel ewe from Caldcoats Beef Enterprise, Malletsheugh, Newton Mearns.

Thainstone

Lambs (1134) averaged 291p per kg at the Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale where Beltex topped the trade at 340.7p from Birkenbower, Lumsden, while 68kg Suffolks from Milltown of Birness, Ellon produced the lead price per head of £170.

Cast sheep (691) averaged £106.28 having sold to £269.50 for a Texel from Skelbister, Orphir.

Bullocks (32) sold to 297p for a 670kg Limousin from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt and to £2375.10 for another of the same cross from Daies, Wardhouse.

Limousins also topped the 37 heifer entry at 323p from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall and£2047.50 from Pityot, Bridge of Muchalls.

Young bulls (16) reached 286p for a 715kg Limousin cross from Auchenzeoch, Fordoun and £2273.30 for an 895kg Charolais from Mains of Lundie Farm, Edzell.

An 1085kg Charolais cross cow from Bankend, Clatt topped the cast cattle entry at £2340.

St Boswells

An entry of 130 prime cattle and 2777 sheep forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday saw 23 bullocks average 302p having sold to 319p from Penston and £2418.60 from Wellheads.

Heifers (55) averaged 296p having reached 338p from Bee Edge and £2261.56 from Rumbleton.

Cast cattle averaged 215p and sold to 241p and £1853.34 for cows from Honeyburn.

Lambs (2066) averaged 311p and reached 408.7p for Beltex from Whitsome West Newton and £190 for Texels from Legars.

Cast sheep peaked at £219 for Texel ewes from Headshaw, Lauder.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington saw 115 head of cattle comprising 40 bullocks and heifers and 75 cast cattle, at their sale on Monday.

Limousins led trade with heifers selling to 342p and £2281 from Brockwoodlees Farm and bullocks to 300p from the same home or £2062 from Walkerdyke Farm.

Young bulls sold to £2151 or 315p from Collielaw while cast cattle reached 222p for a Salers cow from Middle Mains Farm and £1810 for a bull from Corsebank Farm.

Lambs (2877) averaged 302p and peaked at 339p for Beltex from Calton Farm and Biggarshiels Mains Farm, or £196 for Texels from Blackhill Farm.

Cast sheep (1932) reached £300 for a Texel from Greyside Farm.

Ayr

Some 2840 sheep comprising 1957 lambs and 883 cast sheep were forward for Craig Wilson’s sale which saw lambs average 302p per kg. Texels topped the trade at £176 from Messrs Hogg, Cairndale Farm or 350p from Messrs Smith, West Newton.

Cast sheep peaked at £274 for a Texel ewe from J and K Forsyth, Lochlands.

On Tuesday, heifers (15) averaged 299.6p having sold to 330p for a Limousin from The Young Family, Girvan Mains or £1943.40 for a Limousin from W Kennedy, Lyonston. Three young bulls averaged 241.4p and sold to 264p or £1359.60 for a Limousin from Giffordland.

Cast cattle (132) reached £2080 for a Simmental cow from Auchentibbert.

Huntly

Lambs (852) averaged 277p and sold to 355p for 38.6kg Beltex from Mains of Culsh, New Deer or £150 for 61kg Texels from Upper Cook, Cudie, at United Auctions’ sale on Tuesday.

Cast sheep (584) peaked at £222 for a Texel ewe from Porterstown, Fordyce.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts had 1568 sheep at their sale where 460 lambs sold to 312p for a pair of 50kg Texel crosses from Meikle Ussie, Dingwall, or £157 for a 62kg Cheviot Mule from Wester Lochend Farm, Loch Flemington.

Cast sheep peaked at £248 for a Texel ewe form Keeper’s Cottage, Corrybrough.

Bullocks sold to 309p and £1704.30 for Limousin crosses from Ashley, North Kessock. Heifers (18) averaged 306.7p and sold to 314p twice for Limousin crosses from Udale, Poyntzfield or £1973.70 from the same home.

Castle Douglas

An entry of 1399 sheep sold through Wallets Marts on Tuesday saw 1091 lambs average305.81p per kg selling to £170 for Texels from Messrs Wallace, Valleyview or 328.2p from Messrs Wilson, West Barmoffity.

Cast sheep sold to £251 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Henderson, Breconside.
