Dumfries

AT C and D Auction Marts’ sale Texels and Beltex topped the lamb trade at £163 from FR Henderson and Son, Kirkbride or 333p from A and W Padkin, Drumcork, respectively.

Cast sheep achieved £194 for Texel tups from A Ewart and Son, Kirkhill.

Longtown

Lambs (2273) averaged 306p at the C and D Auction Marts’ sale selling to £200 for Suffolks from I and J Barbour, Beechgrove, Annan or 377p for Beltex from J and A Moralee, Hardriding, Bardon Mill.

Cast sheep (3990) sold to £310 for Texel rams from A and HC Smith, Crumhaughhill, Hawick.

Cast cows were topped at £1177 for a Simmental from Waterhead of Dryfe, Shaw of Dryfe, Lockerbie, or 200p per kg for a Belted Galloway from Messrs Barrow, Powheads, Wigton.

Some 5478 sheep sold through United Auctions saw 3344 lambs average 296.22p per kg, selling to 371p for Texels from West Lethans or £172 for Texels from Hill of Errol.

Cast sheep sold to £285 for Texel ewes from Craigfarg.

Stirling (Cally)

Caledonian Marts saw 44 head of prime cattle forward for their sale where heifers averaged 296.65p per kg, selling to 322p or £2003 for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres.

Bullocks averaged 296.02p and sold to 325p for a Limousin from IG Wilkinson, Balgay or to £2113 for a Limousin from FC Eccles, Bruckley.

Young bulls reached 290p or £2007 for a Limousin from A Kennedy, Seggarsdean.

Cast cattle sold to 230p for a Limousin cow from D Reid, Wester Jaw and to £2250 for a Simmental bull from R McNee, Woodend.

On Tuesday lambs averaged 310.7p having sold to 373p and £182 for Texels from A McAuley, Lower Gartacharn and Inverdunning Limited respectively.

Cast sheep reached £267 for a Texel ewe from PG Perring and Son, Hoprig, Cockburnspath.

New season lambs (784) averaged 298p per kg at the Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale reaching a top of 343.8p or £165 for 48kg Beltex from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.

Cast sheep (721) averaged £103.80 and sold to £280 for Texels from West Cairnhill, Culsalmond.

Bullocks (19) sold to 301p for a 660kg Limousin cross from Bridge of Muchalls and to £2105.20 for a Charolais cross from Daies, Wardhouse.

Heifers (18) sold to 327p for a 560kg Limousin cross from Glasslaw, Dunnottar and to £2016 for a Limousin cross from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny.

Young bulls (35) reached 284p for a 765kg Limousin from West Knock, Mintlaw and to £2465.30 for an 890kg Limousin from Mains of Drumbreck.

Cast cattle sold to £2500 for an 888kg Limousin cross cow from Whiteside.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers averaged 293p and 303p per kg respectively at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale on Monday.

Bullocks (25) sold to 320p from Penston and £2181.04 from Wellheads.

Heifers (37) reached 338p from Bee Edge and £2202 from Wellheads.

Cast cattle (38) sold to 245p from Greenhead, Selkirk and to £1786.50 from Woodhouse. Lambs (1280) averaged 318p having sold to 375p for Texels from Whitsome, West Newton and £185 for Blue Texels from the same home.

Cast sheep (637) averaged £135 and sold to £285 for Texel ewes from Legars.

Carlisle

Limousin crosses led the Harrison and Hetherington’s cattle trade with heifers selling to £2382.98 for a 765kg cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle, or to 325p for a 689kg entry from Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Dumfries.

Bullocks sold to £2357.97 for an 859kg cross from Knockshinnoch and to 308.50p for a 710kg cross from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton.

Young bulls (77) sold to £3047.33 for a 991kg Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie and to 317.50p for a 742kg entry from Messrs Carruthers, Merkland, Dumfries.

Limousins also topped the cast cattle at £2077 for a 913kg cow from Messrs Harrison, Dundraw Farm and to 249.5p from Merkland.

Lambs (2280) achieved £220 or 500p for Beltex from Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall.

Cast sheep sold to £200 for Texel ewes from Messrs Miller, Crookholm, Canonbie.

Lanark

On Monday, Lawrie and Symington sold 87 cattle comprising 35 bullocks and heifers and 52 cast cows.

Heifers sold to 342p per kg and £2009 for Limousins from Brockwoodlees Farm. Bullocks sold to 298p for a Limousin from Hill Farm, Strathaven and a Charolais from Easter Happrew Farm, or to £2029 from South Arnloss Farm.

Young bulls reached £1625 or 268p from Harviston.

Cast cattle sold to 232p for a Limousin cross cow from Hartside Farm and to £2110 for a Limousin bull from West Quarter.

Lambs (1214) averaged 312p and reached £190 or 380p for Texels from Collielaw Farm. Cast sheep (1350) sold to £284 for a Texel ewe from Gilmeadowland Farm.

Ayr

An entry of 2846 sheep forward for Craig Wilson’s sale saw 2006 lambs average 308p per kg, selling to a top of £176 for Texels from The Young Family, Polquhairn Farm and to 329p for more of the same from Messrs Young, Castle Mains.

A Texel ewe lead the cast sheep at £280 from W Brown, Caprickhill with the sale averaging £107.

On Tuesday, heifers (13) averaged 294.05p and sold to 328p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robertson, Creochhill and to £2017.40 for another Limousin from Messrs Crawford, Mansfield Mains.

Bullocks sold to 314p for a Limousin from The Smith Family, North Boig and cast cattle (89) reached £2000 for an Aberdeen Angus cow from Whitehill.

Quoybrae

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 627 new season lambs at their sale to average 297.3p per kg, selling to 346.3p for 40kg Texels from Dunbeath Mains, Dunbeath and to £171.50 for 63kg black lambs from Cairnrioch, Lybster.

Cast sheep (792) sold to £265 for Texels from Sibmister, Castletown.

Huntly

New season lambs (262) averaged 288p per kg at the United Auctions’ sale on Tuesday, where Blue Texels topped the trade at 333p and £164 from Inchford, Cornhill.

Cast sheep saw a top of £255 for a pair of Texel ewes from Corskie.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 454 sheep with 259 lambs selling to 334p per kg for a pair of 42.5kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn, or £158 for 56kg Beltex crosses from 25 Fasach, Glendale.

Cast sheep sold to £216 for a pair of Texel ewes from Invercharron, Sutherland.

Castle Douglas

An entry of 1317 sheep for Wallets Marts’ sale saw 987 lambs average 308.4p per kg. Texels led the sale at 359.8p from Messrs Williamson and Ross, Breckoniehill and at £173 from Messrs Black, Hillside.

Cast sheep sold to £220 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Nelson, Cogarth.

Kirkby Stephen

On Tuesday night, Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 1454 prime lambs, 316 prime hoggs and 869 cast sheep sold to £195 and 487.5p per kg for a pair of 40kg Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond. The sale averaged 336p
