At Craig Wilson Auction Marts' sale 578 lambs averaged 296p per kg, having sold to £160 for Suffolk crosses from J Cannon, Clauchrie or 319p for Texels from S Hannah, Clearview and WS Nelson, Kirkland.

Cast sheep reached £167 for Texel crosses from Drumabrennan.


Dumfries

Texels topped C and D Auction Marts' sale at £144 and 316p per kg from Glenkiln Farms and Blackett House Farm respectively. Lambs averaged 297.2p per kg.

Cast sheep sold to £280 for Texel ewes from Newbank.

Some 1434 lambs forward for C and D Auction Marts' sale averaged 305.5p, selling to 359p for Beltex from J and A Moralee, Hardriding, Bardon Mill, or to £176 for Suffolks from KJ and CS Wilson Ltd, Wood Farm, Thursby.

Cast sheep sold to £300 for Texel ewes from A and HC Smith, Crumhaughhill.

United Auctions sold 1329 lambs to average 293.18p selling 359p for Texels from Peattie or £170 for continentals from Cowford.

Ross Bros, Wardhead, topped Caledonian Marts' sale of heifers, with a British Blue at 350p per kg and a Limousin at £2150. Heifers averaged 311.85p.

Bullocks averaged 306.97p having sold to 338p for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill and to £2138.16 for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres.

Young bulls averaged 270.25p and sold to 280p or £2273.60 for a Simmental from J Maxwell, Jaw, with cast cattle levelling at 193.65p having sold to 239p for a Limousin from J and N Kerr, Bankhead and to £1980 for a Charolais from D MacGregor, Burnhead.

On Tuesday, 185 lambs averaged 307.11p selling to 440p or £185 for a Beltex from WS Young and Son, Mawcarse.

An entry of 52 bullocks and heifers for Harrison and Hetherington's sale saw bullocks sell to £2400 for a 768kg Limousin cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle and to 315.50p per kg for a 613kg Limousin cross from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton.

Heifers sold to £2168.78 for a 729kg Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith and to 321.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle.

Young bulls (72) reached £3000.79 for a 1066kg Limousin from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning, Keswick or 314.5p for an 860kg Limousin from Messrs Watson, Bowesden Moor.

Cast cattle (291) sold to £2177 for an 814kg Charolais from L Sawrij, Sewborwens Farm and to 285p for a 576kg Limousin cow from Bowesden Moor.

The 1372 lambs averaged 324.52p with Beltex topping the trade at £206 or 490.5p from P Urwin, Hill House.

Limousins led Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 33 prime cattle and 75 cast cows on Monday where heifers sold to 338p from Messrs Smith, North Boig, or £2104 from Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke.

Bullocks peaked at 320p from Messrs Grey, Balquharrage and to £2101, again from Walkerdyke.

Young bulls sold to £2440 from Skirling Craigs and 305p from Stonebyres, with cast cattle reaching £2290 for a Charolais cow from North Boig and 260p for a Limousin cow from Messrs Shanks, Wes Glespin.

Texels topped the lamb trade at £182 from Messrs Middleton, Longford Farm, whilst Beltex from Messrs Dow, Dovecot, led the prices per kg at 381p. The 1028 lambs averaged 302p.

Hoggs (62) averaged 187p having sold to 266p for a Texel from Messrs Mair, Hill Farm, and to £140 for a Suffolk from Messrs Anderson, Upper Muirhouse Farm.

Cast sheep reached £280 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Provan, Robiesland Farm.


Ayr

Some 1412 sheep comprising of 819 spring lambs and 593 cast sheep were forward at the Craig Wilson Auction Mart’s sale on Monday where lambs averaged 303p.

Top prices were 329p paid for Texels from Messrs McMillan, Lawhill, or £174 for Suffolks from Messrs Currie, Fisherton, and Texels from Messrs Dunlop, West Enoch Farm.

Cast sheep peaked at £270 for Texel tups from WM and JD Gibson, Sawerston.

On Tuesday, bullocks sold to 320p or £1872 for a Limousin from JM Thomson and Son, Blairbowie.

The 15 heifers averaged 298p and sold to £1963.50 or 330p for a Limousin from CA Smith, North Boig. Cast cattle (84) reached £1850 for a Hereford bull from R Shearlaw and Son, High Garphar, and to 244.6p for a Simmental cross cow from M Strang, Easter Hillhouse.


Huntly

United Auctions had 777 sheep forward at their sale on Tuesday where 189 new season lambs averaged 288p per kg selling to 310p for 40kg Beltex from Teuchitfauld, Maud.

Top price per head was £149 paid for 50.5kg Texel from Auchenbreddie, Insch, and a 52kg Texel from Mains of Tillymorgan, Insch.

Cast sheep sold to £264 for a pair of Texel ewes from Newton of Tulloch, St Katherines.


Dingwall

An entry of 179 sheep forward for Dingwall and Highland Marts sale saw 91 new season lambs sell to 300p for a Texel cross from Meikle Ussie, Dingwall, and to £130 for a Suffolk cross from Muirton Mains, Urray.

Cast sheep reached £154 for a Texel cross ewe from Teanahaun Croft, Conon Bridge.


Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts sold 1064 sheep on Tuesday, where 995 lambs averaged 306.59p per kg selling to 337.6 for Beltex from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland. Top price per head was £173.50 for Texels from Messrs Baird, Potterland. Hoggs sold to £111 for Texels from Little Park, Castle Douglas and cast sheep were topped at £220 by Texel ewes from Messrs Black, Hillside.
