Bullocks (214) and heifers (117) averaged 286.03p per kg and 276.90p respectively at United Auctions’ weekly store cattle sale.

Bullocks peaked at 359.70p for a 303kg Simmental cross from Kirkland, and to £1730 for a 562kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Ardagte.

A 510kg British Blue cross from Humeston, led the heifers at 300.0p, whilst a 652kg Limousin cross led the gross trade at £1735 for Nethertown.

A 576kg Limousin cross from Flenders, led the young bulls at 271.70p and £1565, to average 212.89p.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Peter and Mick Lawson, New House, Penton, topped Harrison and Hetherington’s store cattle sale selling at £1940.

A British Blue from Messrs Lockhart, Fauldingcleugh, topped the heifers at £1740

A Limousin bull from Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton, led the weaned cattle at £1660.

Messrs Gill and Kennedy, Moory Lea, sold a British Blue cross bullock for £1620, whilst Messrs Langcake, Sandhills sold the top priced Limousin cross heifer at £1580.

The sale of 338 calves, saw bulls and heifers average £440 and £378 respectively, having sold to £690 twice – for a British Blue bull from T and E Dun, Jeanfield, Carnwath, and a Limousin bull from G and ED Sisson, Grain Head, Hethersgill.

A British Blue from Gillespie, led the heifers at £680.

Bullocks topped Craig Wilson’s sale of 447 store cattle, having sold to £1950 for an Aberdeen Angus from Clevance, and to 339p per kg for Charolais from Mossend, Ayr.

Heifers peaked at £1780 for a Salers from Coalhilll, and to 315p for a pair of Limousins from Auchentibbert.

Bulls sold to £1600 or 269p for Aberdeen Angus from Laigh Drumdow.

On Tuesday, the sole dairy heifer, a fresh calved Holstein Friesian from Messrs Steel, Ditton, made £2200.

The show of 83 calves and stirks peaked at £1260 for a Simmental heifer from Messrs MacDougall, Muirhouse, whilst bullocks peaked at £1000 for British Blues from Messrs Carmichael, Macmannieston.

Calves sold to £700 for a British Blue cross bull and a Limousin bull both from Messrs Smith, South Kilbride.

Heifer calves were topped at £640 on two occasions – for a Simmental cross from Kaimhill and a British Blue from Messrs Vance, Low Barledziew.

Top prices per head were £1650 for an Aberdeen Angus cross heifer from J Paterson and Co, Kildarroch, and £1460 for Charolais bullocks from M Milroy, Laigh Sinniness.

Limousin bullocks topped Caledonian Marts’ sale of 237 store cattle, having sold to 325p per kg for Ditch Farms, Stirling, and to £1580 from Overton Farm, Stirling, to average 281.67p.

Heifers cashed in at 272.72p having sold to 295p for Simmentals from T and W Stodart, Garelwood, and to £1400 for a British Blue from E McGregor, Wester Tillyrie.

Quoybrae

On Monday, Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 556 store and breeding cattle where bullocks and heifers improved by 6.6p and 3.6p per kg respectively on the year.

Bullocks averaged 289.9p having sold to 353.2p for 361kg Charolais crosses from Nottingham Mains or £1950 for a 693kg similarly bred animal from Brae Edge, Castletown.

Heifers were topped at 333.3p for four Simmental crosses from Grantown Mains, Bower or £1680 for four Charolais crosses from Hoy, Castletown. They averaged 268.7p.

Breeding cattle (30) peaked at £2450 for a Simmental heifer with heifer calf at foot from Cairntack, Belhelvie.

Champion at the pre-sale show was a 602kg Limousin cross bullock from K Sinclair, Latheron, which sold for £1780. The reserve, selected by judge Ronald Sime, Bruceland, Elgin, was a 662kg Charolais cross from DA Budge, Brae Edge, Castletown, which also made £1780. Both entries were purchased by W and J Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, Keith.
