Bidding twice reached £2900 at Gisburn Auction Marts’ first sale of July, with the two sale leaders from WJ and I France’s Corfield herd, from Chipping.

These fresh heifers were both daughters of Warnelview Nitrogen, with the first, Marqi 53, boasting a string of Ex-classified dams tracing back to Joylan, Hanoverhill and Sleepy Hollow. She sold giving 32kg. Her herdmate was from the Corfield Randy family going back to Leachfield and Philmor.

Next best at £2800 was M and J Bristol’s Claremonth Almamater Sweetmaple 2, by a Westcoast sire and out of a 10,296kg heifer dam with 15 generations Ex or VG behind her.

Three of the five fresh heifers from Jennings Farmers, Ripon sold at £2720, £2700 and £2680. Dearest was a Stantons Adorable-sired entry out of a Sunnybanks dam, tracing back to Ryisle.

Selling for £2700 was a Sandley President daughter also out of a Sunnybanks dam and at £2680. The same vendors sold a Washfold-bred heifer by Westcoast Redcarpet out of a 16,468kg Cal-Roy-Al Yoda dam.

Non-pedigree heifers peaked at £2650 for an entry from G and PS Fleetwood, Hopton, Mirfield.

Pedigree cows reached highs of £2500 and £2480. First was Bowlandview second calver by Rubicon Jones out of a Superior Production dam from J and I Garth, Great Eccleston. She sold giving 47kg per day.

Next was a Sandcrest third calver giving 40kg from J and M Sanderson, Kirkham. The Supershot daughter is from the herd’s long-established Pandora family. A large entry of in-calf and maiden heifers sold to £2000 for a Peak Conrad heifer in-calf to the Hereford, from BR Fox, Staindrop, Durham
