UK auction markets experienced a challenging week as store values struggled. 

Stirling UA

Bullocks (114) and heifers (153) averaged 279.5p per kg and 269.98p respectively at United Auctions' store cattle sale.

Simmental crosses led the bullock trade at 318.3p for a 333kg entry from Eden, and to £1860 for a 680kg animal from Harestonhill.

A 474kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Auchencloigh, topped the heifers at 333.0p, with another of the same breed weighing 474kg made £1700 for West Park.

Young bulls (12) cashed in at 245.15p having sold to 266.3p for a 383kg Simmental cross from Mosston Muir, and to £1570 for a 600kg Charolais cross from Burnhead.

Carlisle

An overall average of £1406.44 was achieved for 336 store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Trade topped at £1900 for a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton, whilst heifers peaked at £1840 for more of the same from Messrs Eve, Stubbsgill, Wigton.

The weekly sale of calves witnessed bulls and heifers average £340 and £287 respectively.

Topping the sale at £710 was a British Blue bull from FJ and M Mattinson and Sons, Rosewain, Wigton, whilst a Limousin heifer made £590 for Nether Place, Lockerbie.

The firm also held their monthly beef breeding sale, where trade peaked at £5200 for a Limousin cross cow and heifer calf from Messrs Renton, Highlaws, Morpeth.

Bulling heifers topped at £1750 for a Simmental from Messrs Carter, Gerrard House.

Bullocks (92) averaged 281p and sold to £1950 for a 870kg Stabiliser cross from East Bradieston, Laurencekirk, whilst heifers (145) cashed in at 275.6p and reached £1880 for a 690kg Aberdeen Angus from Mains of Thornton, Bourtie.

Bulls (19) peaked at 269.2p for a 416kg Limousin cross from Whiteinches, Pitcaple, and to £1340 for a 526kg Simmental cCross from Candyglirach, Drumoak.

Top price calf was £730 for a pair of British Blue crosses off Messrs Goldie and Sons, Buistonhead, with heifers making £610 on two occasions firstly for a Simmental cross from Kaimhill, and again for a British Blue cross from Messrs Smith, Haysmuir.

A mixed offering of beef breeding cattle, witnessed a top call of 4500gns for a Simmental bull from Messrs Baird, Langholm.

Heifers with calves sold to £3000 for a Saler cross from Messrs Limond, Drumore, whilst in-calf cows realised £1400 for a Aberdeen Angus cross off Messrs Maxwell, Enoch.
