AVERAGES improved on the year at the summer sale of Limousin bulls at Carlisle where 17 cashed in at £5753 – up £155 on the year with a 68% clearance achieved.
The first lot in the ring set the pace when selling for the top price of 18,000gns. This was the six-year-old bull Westpit Omaha from Craig Ridley of the Haltcliffe herd, Wigton. Bred by Andrew and Jim Gammie of the Wespit herd, Laurencekirk, Omaha is by Ampertaine Foreman, out of Brockhurst Holy, and was originally purchased privately by the Ridleys at 17 months.
Omaha has myostatins of F94L/Q204X and has bred heifers to 32,000gns and bulls to 16,000gns, and headed home to the Pabo pedigree herd of WP Hughes and Sons, Fferam Gyd, Anglesey. Haltcliffe also sold the imported French bull Tabasco for 6000gns to Messrs Jones, Llanarth, Dyfed. Bred by Gaec du Patureau, this two-year-old is sired by Japon and out of Galette.

The four-year-old bull Frogmore Ronaldo, from Eric and Elaine Norman of Norman Farming Company, Little Orton, Carlisle, made 12,000gns when selling to commercial buyers G and P Middleton, Low House Farm, Sedburgh. Bred by Chris White of the Frogmore herd, Ronaldo was originally purchased at Carlisle in February 2022 for 15,000gns. A
Another backed by Ampertaine genetics and with a double copy of the easy calving F94L gene, he is sired by Ampertaine Magnum and bred from the Ampertaine Gigolo daughter, Foxhillfarm Oriel.
Dumfriesshire breeders Stephen and Thomas Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie, sold Glenrock Unionjack for 5500gns. This 18-month-old is by Ampertaine Elgin, and is out of the heifer Glenrock Royalhighness. Final bidders were Messrs Strong and Son, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton.
Glenrock Touchofspice from the same home made 5000gns when the hammer fell to Messrs Youngson, Stewartfield, Peterhead. A December 2022-born son of Bremore Artist, he is bred from Glenrock Diamante.
The Henshall family from Eaglesfield also received 5000gns from Messrs Crichton, Ruthwell, Dumfries, for their September 2022-born, Ringway Torino. This Millington Langton son is out of Ringway Nerine.
Wilodge Topnotch made the same money for Christine Williams and Paul Tippets,Wilodge, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal.
This two-year-old is by Plumtree Deus and sold to Newton Stewart with Messrs McGill and Co, Whauphill.
