Bullocks (201) and heifers (263) averaged 290.76p per kg and 281.40p respectively at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale.

Bullocks reached 360.30p for a 297kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Kirkland, and to £1850 for a 626kg Limousin cross from Patrickston.

A 352kg Charolais cross from Corriehill, led the heifers at 326.70p, whilst a 613kg Simmental cross made £1650 for Temples.

Young bulls (21) cashed in at 245.80p having sold to 305.30p for a 452kg Blonde cross from South Brownhill, and to £1400 for a 592kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Halbeath.

Also forward were 442 breeding cattle, which reached £4400 for breeding bulls from Wight Whitrighill.

Heifers and calves made £2800 for Little Kilchatten.

Several dispersals of cows and calves also came under the hammer, with Dalswinton averaging £2323.33 for 105 cows and calves, having achieved £3000 on three occasions. The stock bull from the same home made £3900.

The Glenturk dispersal reached the same money on five occasions for cows and calves, with their stock bull making £6000. Their run of 37 cows and calves cashed in at £2664.86.

Some 27 cows and calves levelled at £2544.44 for the Marvingston dispersal, having peaked at £2900.

Suffolk ewe hoggs topped the 935 breeding sheep at £210 for Duntuim.

Carlisle

Trade was sharper on the week at Harrison and Hetherington's store cattle sale, with steers averaging £1389.13 and heifers at £1312.18.

Top overall was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie, which made £1930.

A British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Philips, Netherhill, Carlisle, achieved £1780.

Among the weaned cattle Limousins sold to £1660 for Messrs Graham, Hetherside.

Limousins also led the heifers and bullocks at £1410 from Messrs Murray, The Throp, and to £1120 from Messrs Reid, Calfpark, respectively.

Bulls and heifers averaged £357 and £324 respectively at the weekly calf sale.

Topping the sale at £700 was a Charolais bull from W Templeton and Son, Glenlaugh, Auldgirth, whilst a British Blue led the heifers at £540 for Messrs Reed, Moss Side House, Wigton.

Bullocks peaked at £1535 for a 574kg British Blue from Craigthornhill, to average 286.40p, whilst heifers sold to £1450 for British Blues scaling 532kg from Sherifflatts, to level at 270.60p.

Dairy bullocks topped at £970 on two occasions, firstly, for a 468kg Holstein Friesian from Blackburn Mains, and again for a pen of three British Friesians at 418kg from North Bankend, with the same pen topping pence per kg at 232.10p to average 220p.

Limousin crosses from Easter Clune, Lethen, led the proceedings at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' store cattle sale, with a 588kg bullock making £1910, and a 562kg heifer fetching £1880.

Charolais crosses from Drumgask, Laggan, topped the pence per kg sections, at 533p and 384.3p for 212kg bullocks and 264kg heifers respectively.

Bullocks (153) averaged 300.4p, whilst heifers (156) cashed in at 282.5p.

Bulls (17) sold to 286.6p for a 506kg Simmental from Lagavaich, Glenlivet, and to £1670 for a 690kg Aberdeen Angus from Perkhill, Lumphanan.

Also forward were 142 head of adult breeding cattle, which reached £3000 for a Simmental heifer with twin heifer calves from Floors, Grange.

The same home led the in-calf cows and heifers at £2150 for a November calving Simmental heifer.

A Simmental cross cow with her second calf from Crannabog, Rothienorman, made £2950.
