Bullocks (139) and heifers (137) averaged 302.31p per kg and 289.52p respectively at United Auctions' weekly store cattle sale.

Among the pence per kg, a 283kg Simmental cross bullock made 374.60p, and a 292kg Charolais cross heifer realised £1800, both coming from Kirkland.

Limousin crosses from Torrax, topped the per head sections at £1880 for a 676kg bullock and to £1800 for a 616kg heifer.

Simmental crosses from Woodhall, topped the young bulls at 277.60p and £1090, to average 268.46p.

Also forward were 116 breeding cattle, which reached £4250 for heifers with calves at foot from Craig and Teen Malone, Pitcairn.

Carlisle

British Blues from Todd Farming, Market Rasen, led Harrison and Hetherington's store cattle sale, with heifers and bullocks making £2300 and £1860 respectively.

Bullocks averaged £1379.44, whilst heifers cashed in at £1312.77.

Among the weaned cattle, trade reached £1450 for Simmental bulls from Messrs Vaughan, High Dovecote.

Limousin crosses led both the heifers at £1450 and bullocks at £1380 from Messrs Harrison, Lesson Hall, and Messrs Preston, Pallet Hill, respectively.

Simmental bulls from Messrs Sanderson, Graden, Kelso, led the calves at £605.

Heifers achieved £480 on two occasions, for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Marshall, Auchenleck, Castle Douglas, and again for British Blues from Messrs Caddy, The Crescent.

On Monday, the firm held its weekly sale of ewes and lambs, which reached £130 per life on two occasions, firstly for a Beltex cross ewe and lamb from SD and CM Hoodless, Highfield, Ruchcroft, and again for a two-crop Texel with Beltex lamb from A W Hague, Mill Street, Frizington.

Ayr

Bullocks came out on top at Craig Wilson's store cattle sale having reached £1875 for Simmental bullocks from Stoopshill, and to 362p per kg for a pair of Charolais from West Enoch.

Limousins from Auchentibbert, led the heifers at £1705 and 331p.

Bullocks (146) averaged 292.4p, whilst heifer (130) cashed in at 279.4p.

On the sheep front, 306 ewes and lambs at foot came under the hammer, with a top price of £132 a life paid for Texel hoggs with single lambs from T McMillan, Eskechraggan.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 14 dairy cattle to a top of £2050 for a fresh calved heifer from Messrs Steel, Ditton.

A large show of 132 calves and stirks, reached £1410 for a pair of Charolais cross bullock stirks from J Douglas and Sons, Barlaughlan.

Top price calf of £680 was paid for a British Blue bull from TS Smith, Haysmuir, with heifers reaching £590 for a Aberdeen Angus cross off Beacom Farms, Raith.
