Former dairy farmers, Andrew and Alison Holgate, son Edward and his wife Rosie, bought four of the five highest priced lots at the seventh annual production sale of Aberdeen-Angus cattle from the Isherwood family's Airedale herd at Airedale House, Kildwick.

The family, who dispersed their Aliann Holstein herd in September, bought two at 5000gns and others at 4800gns, 4300gns and 3000gns. However, while the parents established the Aliann Beef Shorthorn herd, Edward and Rosie set about building up the Edro Angus herd.

They first went to 5000gns for the six-year-old cow, Airedale Princess Caroline U565, by Airedale Lord Perseus P325, an AI son of SAV Brave, sell for 5000gns. Princess Caroline is bred from a Blelack dam and sold with her fourth calf, an April-born heifer by Shadwell Rock 'N' Roll.

David and Judith Isherwood, and son Josh, also received 5000gns for the five-year-old cow, Aireburn Prairie V631, a daughter of the Rawburn Boss Hogg N630-sired Airedale Kirstoner S434, out of a Weeton dam daughter of Blelack Duke J262.

Catching the eye at 4800gns was the last lot into the sale ring, another cow and calf outfit in the 2019-born Airedale Ellie V621, by the Weeton Lord Horatio M357 son, Airedale Kasper S451 and her March-born calf, Airedale Evensteven A880, again by Rock ‘N’ Roll.

The sale opened with a number of cow and calf outfits sold separately. These peaked at a combined high of 4300gns for the six-year-old Airedale Karama U579 – the same way bred as the joint top price cow, out of another Weeton dam. She was joined with her September 2023-born heifer calf Airedale Karama Z863, by Shadwell Finnigan X262.

Making 3000gns to the Holgates was the eight-year-old cow, Airedale Pastelle S458, by the Rawburn Elmer J921.

The sale, conducted by CCM, saw other lots sell to 2500gns for Airedale Miss Essence W667, a daughter of the Blelack Duke son, Airedale Rosenthall U554 to Forgelands Estate, Caton, Lancaster. Her October-born bull calf Airedale Mr Essay Z867 made 1600gns to B Shaw, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.

A brace of February, 2023-born bulls sold to 3800gns twice. First was Airedale Mission Bell Z818, by Weeton Black Brooke V539, purchased by E Stott, Rishworth, Sowerby Bridge. Later, the Rock ‘N’ Roll son, Airedale Early Riser Z839, made the same money to B Howarth, Turton, Bolton.
