A Limousin cross heifer with a Limousin cross heifer calf from S Stephen, Meikle Geddes, achieved £4100 at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 210 head of adult breeding cattle.

The same home topped the heifer with bull calves at £4000 with a similar outfit.

Cows topped at £3950 for a Simmental with a Simmental steer calf from Cameron Maciver, Wester Coltfield, Kinloss.

A top price of £5000 was achieved on two occasions among the bulls, firstly for a British Blue from S Stephen, Meikle Geddes, and again for a Limousin from J Dow, Upper Sauchen, Ordhead.

Among the store cattle bullocks (291) and heifers (440) averaged 317p and 290.1p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 430.1p for a pen of four 272kg Charolais crosses from Barns, Crathes, and to £1950 for a 702kg Limousin from Brangan, Boyndie.

A 310kg British Blue cross from Mains of Dalvey, Cromdale, led the heifers at 361.3p, whilst a 738kg Simmental cross from Milton of Collieston, Ellon, made £1850.

Bulls (22) sold to 306.5p for a 460kg Limousin cross from New Bourtreebush, Newtonhill, and to £1790 for a 736kg Aberdeen Angus from Milton of Collieston, Ellon.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 896 ewes with lambs at foot to average £92.69 having sold to £152 for Beltex ewes with lamb and half from Muirfield, Everton of Auchry.

A weekly Wednesday record was achieved at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 487 store cattle, when Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Fowlie, Guise, Aberdeen, realised £5500 and £5200.

The sale averaged £1406.

Bullocks sold to £2080 for a Beef Shorthorn from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton.

Among the weaned cattle, Simmental bullocks made £1430 for Messrs Ward, Whinstonhill, whilst Limousin heifers attained £1420 for Messrs Salisbury, Beech.

A smaller show of bulls peaked at £1400 for a Limousin from Messrs Pearson, The Faulds.

British Blues from Messrs Dun, Jeanfield, led the calves at £625 and £600 for bulls and heifers respectively.

On Monday, the firm conducted its end of May show and sale of ewes and lambs, which achieved an overall average of £128.20.

Topping the sale was a single outfit from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale selling to £255 a life.

The same home sold a single hogg and lamb to £240 a life.

The pre-sale show was judged by Peter Dent, Elm House, who awarded his championship to continental gimmers from J Browell, Quarry House, which later realised £210.

Bullocks led the proceedings at Caledonian Marts' sale of store cattle, having sold to 339p per kg for Limousins from R Purdon, Easterton, Airdrie, and to £1670 for Charolais from J Taylor, Jawpark, Falkirk, to average 271.34p.

Heifers achieved 300p per kg on two occasions for Aberdeen Angus from C Hastie, Easter Gartfarran, Balfron, and from W and W Stewart, Knockoyd, Kircolm, with a top per head of £1360 paid for British Blues from D T Marshall, West Kirkland, Newton Stewart, having cashed in at 270.26p.

Also forward were 616 lives among the ewes and lambs at foot, which reached £150 for Texel hoggs with lambs from R McNee Ltd, Woodend, Armadale.

Ewes and lambs sold to £144 per life for a Suffolk ewe with a Texel lamb from Messrs Morrison, Dalwyne.

On Tuesday, 434 store cattle witnessed bullocks and heifers average 290.2p per kg and 279.85p respectively.

A top price of £1750 was paid for a 722kg Aberdeen Angus bullock from Wester Walston, and to 345.8p for a pair of 402kg Limousin crosses from Bickerton Hall.

Limousins led the heifers at £1660 for a 594kg entry from Whitehill Farm, Gartcosh, and to 331.9p for a pair of 473kg animals from Weston.

Dairy bullocks sold to £1280 for a pair of 538kg British Friesians from Parklea, and to 254.2p for a 354kg Friesian from East Hyndshawland, to average 210.3p.
