Newton Stewart

A small selection of 46 spring lambs achieved an average of 417.9p per kg at Craig Wilson's sale.

Topping this trade at £222 was Suffolks from A and T Wilson, Baryerrock, and to 468p for Dutch spotted from R Oxley, Barholm Mains.

Some 244 hoggs cashed in at 350p, with the top prices coming from A and J Wright, Traboyack Farms, with Cheviots to £206 and 402p for Charolais.

Texel crosses led the cast sheep at £162 for S and A McCaig, Mount Pleasant


Dumfries

Hampshires from E Brown, Newfield, led the spring lambs forward at C and D Auctions' sale, having sold to £188 and 425p per kg.

A mixed offering of prime hoggs were led by Texel at £208 from I Stewart, Halldykes, and to 383p for R Spence, Springfield.

Cast ewes peaked at £236 for Texels from Glenjaan.


Wooler

Texel hoggs from Black Heddon, secured £220 at Harrison and Hetherington's primestock sale.

Among the pence per kg section a top of 409.1p was paid for Beltex from The Hagg, the same home sold the top priced cast Texel ewes at £239.


Dingwall

Limousin cross heifers from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie, made 303p per kg and £1857.30 at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale, where six heifers cashed in at 299.2p.

Bullocks sold to 300.0p and £1875.00 for a 625kg Limousin cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie.

On the sheep front, new season lambs (6) averaged 396.0p and sold to 396.0p and £204 for Suffolks from Glendonan, Knockfarrel.

Beltex from Upperton, Glenurquhart, led the old season lambs (468) at 402p, whilst Charollais crosses from Hillhead, Glen of Newmill, realised £198, to average 350.4p.

Feeding sheep (154) sold to £220 for a Charollais cross ewe from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

New season prime lambs (107) averaged 422.6p per kg (-4.5p) and sold to 485.1p for 47kg Suffolks from Milltown of Birness, and to £250 for 61kg Suffolks from Cairnton, Techmuiry .

Texel crosses led the old season prime lambs (2787) at 447.6p for 42kg entries from Crichneyled, Fyvie, and to £232 for 57kg lambs from South Craighead, Skelmuir, to cash in at 386.2p.


Thainstone

A buoyant demand was met at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale, where bullocks reached 311p per kg for a 575kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and to £2272.40 for a 920kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Bogie Street, Huntly.

Limousin crosses topped the heifer trade at 309p for a 545kg entry from Kirkhill, Gartly and to £2018.95 for a 745kg animal from Braehead, Drummuir.

Limousins led the young bulls (15) at 311p for Bogie Street, Huntly, and to £2706.30 for Knocknagael, Inverness.


Stirling (Cally)

Prime heifers and bullocks levelled at 314.85p per kg and 273.33p respectively at Caledonian Marts' weekly sale.

Limousins topped the heifers at 352p for A Pettigrew, Faskine, and to £2165 for D S and R C Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill.

Bullocks sold to 328p for a Limousin again from Faskine, and to £2132 for more of the same from A W Nicholson, Kinclaven.

Young bulls attained 292p for a Blonde from L Laird, Lochhead, and to £2047 for a Limousin from Croy Cunnigham, Killearn.

A Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, topped the prime lambs at £240 and 471p per kg, to average 432.87p.

Prime hoggs cashed in at 373.22p, with Texels leading the way at 496p for S and JE Andrew, Letter and to £238 for S and JE Andrew, Letter.

Texels also topped the cast ewes at £255 for R McNee, Woodend, to level at £128.35.


Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 5705 prime sheep comprising of 4392 prime hoggs selling to an average of 376.24p per kg, 101 new season lambs which cashed in at 425.05p and 1212 ewes and rams.

Beltex from Easter Ochtermuthill, led the new season lambs at £232 and 473.00p.

Among the old season lambs, Texels from Allanfauld, realised £270, whilst Beltex from Longfauld, peaked at 490.00p.

Texel from Invernoaden, topped the cast ewes at £290, whilst Suffolk tups from West Dron, made £185.


Ayr

On Monday, Craig Wilson sold 1192 sheep comprising 305 cast sheep, 770 hoggets and 117 spring lambs, which averaged 425p.

A top call of £220 was paid for Suffolks from King’s Arms and Laigh Langcraig, and to 476p for a pair of Texels from Messrs Duffin, West Brockloch.

A very mixed show of 770 hoggs, were topped by Beltex at £232 for Messrs Stevenson, Balcaimie, and to 436p for Messrs McLellan, Mid Floak.

Cast ewes peaked at £180 for a Beltex from A Meikle, Helentongate, with the same breed topping the tups at £142 for J and A McLellan, Mid Floak.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 141 prime and cast cattle, which was led by Limousin heifers, firstly selling to 332p from the Andrews, Rowanston, and to £1943.40 for the Smith family, North Boig, with heifers averaging 301.23p.


St Boswells

Bullocks (58) and heifers (77) averaged 285p per kg and 294p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Bullocks sold to £2167.76 from Learielaw, and to 322p, from Penston, whilst the top prices among the heifers of £2283.24 came from Whitrighill, and to 334p from Bee Edge.

Prime lambs took a big jump on the week, with 49 averaging 457p per kg (+37p), having sold to £233 on two occasions, for Charollais from Runningburn, and for Suffolk from Belmont.

Top pence per kg of 500p was achieved for Texel lambs from New Channelkirk, Belmont.

Beltex from Logie Durno, topped the prime hoggs at £250, whilst Texel hoggs from Boghall, made 440p, to cash in at 381p (+16p on the week).

Cast sheep (302) balanced out at £134.84 having sold to £250 for Texel ewes from W Arnott and Co, Butterdean, whilst tups peaked at £225 for more of the same from PM and AC Gordon, Northfield, St Abbs.


Lanark

Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, led all sections at Lawrie and Symington's primestock sale, with heifers to 342p per kg and £2135, and bullocks making 352p and £2097.

The fortnightly calf and stirk sale, was led by a seven-month-old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Paterson, Watsonhead, at £680.

Dairy cows sold to £1510 from Broadfield Farming Company, Broadfield, Biggar, and to 205p from Messrs Adamson, Swaites, Lanark.

The first new season lambs were forward this week, which achieved an overall average of 450p with a SQQ of 455p.

The sale topped at £230 for Suffolks from Messrs Stevenson, Langshaw, and to 504p for a Texel from Messrs Wilkins, Wester Whitecastle.

A larger show of 2624 prime hoggs, reached £260 for a Texel from Messrs Renwick, Glenrath, and to 461p for more of the same breed from Messrs Smith, North Boig, to cash in at 372p.

Texels led the cast ewes at £272 for Messrs Sanderson, Biggarshiels Mains.


Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 315 prime hoggs to average 349.91p per kg, having sold to £231 for Texels from Messrs Baird, Potterland, and to 414.1p for Beltex from Messrs McDermid, Waterside of Terregles.

New season lambs peaked at £213 for Zwartbles from Kerrie McDermid, South Boig, and to 458p for Texels from Messrs Brough, Cotland.

Texels led the cast sheep at £239 for ewes from Messrs Baird, Potterland, and to £207 for rams from Messrs Brough Cotland.
