A top price of 5800gns was achieved at a sale of 30 fully trained sheepdogs and a larger show of pups and part-trained dogs at Skipton Auction Mart
Alec Baines, of Tan Hill Sheepdogs, Kirkby Stephen, led the sale with his March 2021-born black and white dog, Tan Hill Harry. A son of Andrew Proctor’s £6900 Jed, which is a full brother to Kevin Evans’ German import, Red Spot, the dog is out of Mr Baines’ own trials-winning Tan Hill Lassie. Harry sold to an undisclosed local farmer.
Two dogs made 4400gns with the first being Carnforth-based beef and sheep farmer, Colin Birkett’s two-year-old black and white dog, Mal, by Tom Rome’s Jack, out of Malcolm Cottam’s Mist. The final bidder was Gary Lodge, Malham Moor.
Also hitting 4400gns was Jean Howes’ June 2021-born red, white, and tri-coloured bitch, Ruby, from Co Durham. The last of a long-established and highly successful Redgate line going back to her late father Bill Skidmore, Ruby is sired by KJ Goatcher’s Red and out of her own Redgate Dot. She sold to Alison Bell, of Morpeth, Northumberland.
Young Welsh trainer Arran Games, of Crickhowell, South Wales, also had a good day selling his August 2019-born black and white bitch, Sky, for 3500gns and his January 2021-born black and white bitch, Milly, for 4000gns.
Trade ranged from 100 to 1000gns in the pup pen, with two selling for 1000gns. Willie Torrens’ 14-week-old bitch pup, Jan, was first and was followed by Arran Games’ four-month-old tri-dog, Clide.
