A top call of 4000gns was achieved at Skipton Auction Mart's working sheep dog sale for the home-bred black and white bitch, Tara, from Willie Torrens, of Killen, Castlederg, in Co Tyrone.
Tara, a rising 12-month-old is bred from the proven Glencregg Gyp which was also the mother to last year's £4600 dog from Mr Torrens sold here last March, and another by his work dog, Ben. Tara found a new home in Hertfordshire with Tring beef and sheep farmer, Sophia Lagus, Alnwick Farm.
Next best at 3950gns was the April 2021-born black and white bitch, Eve, from Declan Neary, of Sheeaune, East of Westport, Co Mayo. She is out of Brian Farrelly’s Kemi Eve and by Stuart Davidson’s Dan, both Open trials winners. Scottish South Country Cheviot breeder, Tom Elliot, Hindhope, Jedburgh, was the final bidder.
Daniel McAllister, Cargan, Co Antrim, also had a good day with sales at 3700gns and 3500gns. Dearest was the 13-month-old black and white dog, Nidge, by Paddy Fanning’s Bruce, out of Sean Byrne’s Fly. Nidge was knocked down to the Harrison family, Shap.
Selling at 3500gns was the June 2021-born black, white and mottled bitch, Meg, purchased by N and N Hindmarsh, of Harbottle, Morpeth.
Matching that price, New Cumnock-based David Young, sold his October, 2021, tri-coloured bitch, Straid Cider, by Willie Welsh’s 2022 Scottish National Champion, Cap, out of the breeder’s own Straid Rustie. A grand-daughter of Aled Owen’s 2015 Welsh National and International supreme champion, Llangwm Cap, she sold to B Page, Penrith.

Making 3200gns was Jan, a January, 2020-born black and white bitch from Paul Bouch, Kirkoswald in Cumbria’s Lower Eden Valley. By Brendan McAllister’s multiple trials winner Spot, of out AJ McKeegan’s Jess, Jan sold to Lothersdale’s Geoff and Margaret Booth.
Just behind, on 3000gns, RN Westgarth, of Askham, Penrith, sold Gill, a January 2020-born, black and white bitch, to J Teasdale, Cockermouth.
A small entry of unbroken youngsters sold to 480gns for the eight-month-old tri-coloured Storm from Bob Munro, Eaglesham, Glasgow.
