A large offering of 1641 prime hoggs cashed in at 230.9p per kg with a 234.9p SQQ at Craig Wilson's auction market.

Texels from DL and S Currie, Pinclanty, secured £142, whilst a pair of Beltex from A and J Campbell, Carsewalloch, achieved 3.00p.

Among the 260 cast sheep, it was a paid of Lleyn tups that led the way at £168 for Robinson, Wyllie Ltd, Culbae, with ewes peaking at £120 for a Texel off Ingham, Skaith.

Forfar

Limousin heifers secured the top spots at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale, with a top of 3.16p per kg paid for a 556kg animal from the Gask, whilst a 702kg heifer made £1895.40 for Barns of Airlie, with heifers averaging 2.87p.

Just one bullock exchanged hands and that was for a 630kg Limousin from the Gask, which made 2.90p and £1827.

A 64kg Texel from DR Hood, Middlehill, secured the top price hogg of £135, with three Beltex weighing 43kg making 302.3p for AD Beaton, Newmill of Inshewan.

Cast sheep sold to £148 for a Texel from G and K Lawrie, Hillhead of Careston, with rams peaking at £135 for a continental from Glensaugh.

Dumfries

It was once again Limousins that led the trade at this week's C and D auction marts' prime sale, with a top of £1900 and 208p per kg from Ryes and Ballaggan respectively.

A joint top price of £125 was paid among the 940 hoggs both for Texels from Garloff.

A plainer show of cast ewes peaked at £118 for Texels from Muircleugh.

Penrith

Trade was sharper on the week at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP weekly sale of 4633 prime sheep, with hoggs achieving an average of 240p per kg with a SQQ of 254p.

Topping the sale at 365p was a pen of five 43kg Beltex from F Savage and Sons, Petteril Green, with a top per head of £172 paid for a 80kg Suffolk hogg from WR and FD Siddle, Honeypot.

Texel ewes soared to £290 for Tarn End Farm,, with cast rams also witnessing a rise across the board, topping at £180 for a pen of seven from Holme House.

Stirling (Cale)

Bullocks and heifers averaged 288p per kg and 291p respectively at Caledonian Marts' weekly sale.

Limousins led the heifers at 328p on two occasions, from A Pettigrew, Faskine and DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and to £2024 for more of the same from J Gilvear and Sons,

Bullocks sold to 320p for a British Blue from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and to £2133 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw.

A Limousin from JR MacGregor, Dyke, led the bull trade at 270p and £2166.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1121 hoggs to level at 227.1p per kg, with the overall champion from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, making £160 and 372p.

Cast ewes topped at £248 for a Texel from A Smith, Mucklebrae, Braco.

Thainstone

Averages rose on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Mart' sale of 117 prime cattle, with bullocks and heifers cashing in at 275.1p per kg (+7.4p) and 278.9p (+10.3p) respectively.

Limousin crosses secured the top bullock prices at 313p for a 615kg animal from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, and to £2275.20 for a 790kg entry from Glasslaw, Dunnottar.

Heifers soared to 313p for a 685kg British Blue cross from Middleton of Potterton, Aberdeen and to £2253.35 for a 935kg Simmental cross from Blackhills, Rafford.

Young Bulls (8) averaged 262.7p (+25.7p) and sold to 284p and £2470.80 for an 870kg Limousin from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt.

Also forward were 3693 prime and feeding sheep, where old season prime lambs cashed in at 212p per kg (-15p).

Prime lambs sold to 261.9p per kg for 42kg Beltex from Belnaboth, Glenkindie, and to £130 for a pen of 75kg Suffolk from Toftshills, Clatt.

Texels from Uppermill, Tarves, achieved £265, with ewes and rams levelling at £83.80.

Stirling UA

Texel hoggs from Dalchirla, secured £156 at United Auctions' weekly sale of 7182 prime sheep comprising of 5299 prime hoggs – which sold to average 228.10p per kg – and 1883 ewes and rams.

Top pence per kg of 320p was paid for Beltex from Groan.

Texels led the ewes and rams at £175 from Kilkeddan, and to £168 from Meikle Tullo, respectively.

Longtown

More than 6000 prime hoggs came under the hammer at C and D auction marts' prime sale, with a top call of £168 paid for Texel hoggs from JR and CJ Ward, Whitstonehill, Tundergarth, and to 333p per kg for Beltex hoggs from B Storey, New Hummberbecks, Co Durham.

The sale achieved an overall average of 232.9p and a SQQ of 235.8p.

A larger show of 5029 cast ewes and rams were also forward, where Texel ewes topped at £250 from Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Raughton Head, and rams sold to £200 for Charollais from Heatherglen.

Cast cows continued to sell at recent high rates, with a top of £1406 paid for an Angus from TN Cavers and Co., Sorbie, Langholm, and to 206p for Luings from J and M Turner, Kildalloig, Campbeltown.

St Boswells

Bullocks (33) and heifers (79) averaged 289.86p per kg and 283.9p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly primestock sale.

Heifers from Standhill, achieved £2138.40 and 330p, whilst bullocks sold to £2146.56 for Bee Edge, and to 330p for East Loanend.

A mixed show of hoggs were also forward which balanced out at 226p per kg (-13p), selling to £159 for Texels from Headshaw, Lauder, and to 290.9p for Beltex from Wester Ulston.

An improved trade on the week was achieved for all classes of cast ewes, with the a top of £151 paid for a Suffolk from JM Elliot and Partners, Woodside, with tups peaking at £137 for more of the same breed from Headshaw, Lauder.

Ayr

On Monday, Beltex proved popular at Craig Wilson's sale of 2234 hoggs, with a top call of £132 paid for a pen from M Stevenson, Balcaimie, and to 297.6p for a pair from Tormitchell Farms, having averaged 226.8p.

Texels led the cast sheep at £170 for J Forsyth, Lochalands, whilst a Texel tup from Messrs Mitchell, Barnahill, made £178.

On Tuesday, 114 prime cattle came under the hammer, where a Limousin heifer from North Boig, sold to 310p and £1824, with heifers cashing in at 287.9p.

Bullocks peaked at 299p for a Limousin from North Boig, with the same breed also topping the young bulls at 261p from South Hourat.

Lanark

Limousin heifers from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, achieved the top prices of 318p per kg and £1998 at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale.

Limousin bullocks sold to 305p from Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke, Strathaven.

Among the beef cows trade peaked at £2070 for Messrs Minto, Townhead, Dolphinton, and to 235pfrom Messrs Tayor, Heatheryhall, Lanark.

Dairy cows sold to £1680 per head from Messrs Wilson, Carskerdo, Cupar, and to 215p from Messrs Struthers, Auchmeddan, Lesmahagow.

A smaller show of hoggs sold to £149 for Texels from Messrs Gibb, Rush, and to 312p per kg for Beltex from Messrs Jackson, Craigside, to average 226pp with a SQQ of 229p.

Cast ewes and rams sold to £240 for Texels from Messrs Gibson, Greenwalls.

Hawes

On Tuesday, Hawes Farmers Auction market sold 1534 sheep comprising of 1148 prime lambs, 386 cast ewes and rams, with lambs selling to £130 for Texel crosses from TG and B Todd.

Bluefaced Leicesters from JW and JH Burton and Sons, Hawes, topped the cast ewes at £170, whilst continentals from SM Towler, Malham, Moor, led the cast rams at £150.

Castle Douglas

Some 1479 prime hoggs averaged 226p per kg with a SQQ of 227.81p at Wallets Marts' sale on Tuesday.

Top price of £124.50 was paid for Texels from Messrs Hamilton Balmesh, and to 268.3p for Beltex from Messrs Clarke Airyolland.

Among the 416 cast sheep trade peaked at £161 for Texel ewes from Messrs Henderson, Breconside and to £133 for a Texel ram from Messrs Grierson, Dunmuir Road.

Dingwall

Averages were up on the week at Dingwall and Highland marts' sale with heifers cashing in at 278.6p per kg (+12.9p), having sold to 304.0p per kg and £1824.00 for a 600kg Limousin cross from Burnside of Montbletton, Banff.

Bullocks sold to 280.0p for a 615kg Limousin cross from Burnside of Montbletton, Banff, and again to 280.0p and £1736.00 for a 620kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock.

The same day 1069 prime sheep came under the hammer with a Texel ewe from Hatton Farm Cottage, Dallas, leading the trade at £230.

Old season lambs (565) averaged 218.2p (-6.7p) and sold to 239.1p for a 46kg Beltex cross from Raitcastle, Nairn and to £124 for a 67kg Cheviot from Kinerras, Beauly.

Kirkby Stephen

Harrison and Hetherington, held their weekly sale of prime sheep, where a top price of £171 was paid for a pen of five 40kg Beltex cross hoggs from Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree, Harrogate.

The same home topped at 443.2p per kg for a pen of three 37kg hoggs.

A SQQ of 265.3p and an overall average of 250p was achieved for the 2824 hoggs.

Cast sheep topped at £190 for a pair of Bluefaced Leicester ewes from Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon.

Darlington

Limousin heifers secured the top prices at Darlington Marts' prime sale with a 541kg heifer making 339p per kg for TN and J Hall of Ainstable Hall, and to £2382 for a 842kg animal from Barker Farming.

Heifers cashed in at 289p, with steers averaging 287p having sold to £2231 for a 759kg British Blue from WJ Scott Ltd, Low Leam.

Prime hoggs (2029) levelled up at 235p, with Beltex crosses from Ponteland’s Michael and Jamie Gilhespy, selling to 323p, with a top per head of £155 coming from Mark Simpson of McNeil.

Best among the cast sheep were Texel ewes from FR and A L Lyth, Mount Pleasant, when they attained £200.
