Carlisle

Limousin crosses from Messrs Slack, Newby, Carlisle, proved popular at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of store cattle, with steers and heifers selling to £1980 and £1820 respectively.

Among the weaned cattle, bullocks topped at £1540 for a Limousin from Messrs Ward of Whinstonehill, whilst the same breed led the heifers at £1280 for Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside and Messrs Nixon of Hunters Hall.

British Blues from Messrs Reed, Moss Side House, led the weekly sale of calves with bulls to £550 and heifers to £440.

On Monday, the firm conducted their weekly sale of store lambs and early breeding sheep sale, where a small entry of in-lamb sheep were forward with a top price of £130 paid for a pen of three-crop mules with twins from Mr Nicholson, Hen Moss.

Store lambs met a serious demand with the sale being £10 up on the week, topping the sale was a single Texel from Mr Lamb, High Troweir, at £93.

Bullocks (465) and heifers (423) averaged 261.34p per kg and 251.42p respectively at United Auctions' weekly sale.

Bullocks sold to 295.0p for a pen of six, 461kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Starr, and to £1720 for a 650kg Limousin cross from Farmton.

A 454kg British Blue cross from Lochhead, led the heifers at 295.20p, whilst a 656kg Limousin cross made £1610 for Cuttlehill.

An Aberdeen-Angus cross from Callochant, led the young bulls at 255.20p and £1100.

Also forward were 76 rearing cattle which reached £650 for a Simmental cross bullock from Messrs Yorke, Holmes of Caaf.

Charolais proved popular at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale of 765 store cattle and young bulls, when 390kg bullocks from Coldhome, Dallas, made 315.4p per kg, and a pen of three 452kg heifers from Tomnavoulin Farm, Glenlivet, achieved 309.7p.

Bullocks (375) averaged 278.6p and sold to £1970 for a 740kg Limousin from Loanend, Lumphanan, whilst heifers (301) cashed in at 267.9p and peaked at £1840 for a 604kg Simmental from Wester Coltfield, Kinloss.

Bulls sold to 258.2p for 426kg Limousins from Clinterty, New Aberdour, and to £1390 for a 650kg Beef Shorthorn from Meikle Tullo, Edzell.

On Tuesday, 1165 store sheep including island consignments came under the hammer, with a top price of £104 paid for Texels from West Davoch, Tarland, to cash in at £78.78.

A much smaller show of 59 calves and stirks peaked at £970 for a Charolais cross bull stirk from Messrs Stevenson, Auchenflower.

Top price calf was £470 for a British Blue cross bull from W Lennox, Netherholm, whilst heifers made £370 on two occasions, both for British Blue crosses firstly from Netherholm, and another from Messrs Craig, Tannockhill.

Bullocks sold to £1650 for a pen of 623kg Aberdeen-Angus from Underlaw, and to 310.6p per for a 322kg Limousin from Burnbrae, Lesmahagow.

It was a 698kg Aberdeen-Angus from Hills of Dalserf, that led the heifer trade at £1590, whilst a 530kg Limousin from West Millrig, made 283p.

Dairy bullocks topped at £1300 for Friesians from The Law, and to 231.2p for Montbeliarde from Cobblehaugh to cash in at 204.7p.

Some 400 store hoggs were forward for Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP fortnightly sale, where a joint top price of £91 was paid on two occasions, firstly for a pen of three hoggs from N and BM Ireland, Newhouse, and again for a single hogg from DS and P Wells, Hallgarth.

The firm also held their fortnightly sale of 176 rearing calves and stirks, which topped at £880 for a Beef Shorthorn bullock from J and B Donald, Lamonby Hall.

Young calves reached £430 for an Aberdeen-Angus bull from Messrs Messenger, Howes.

Among the 265 store cattle, a top price of £1450 was paid for Limousin heifers from FR Henderson and Son, Kirkbride, whilst British Blue bullocks from South Carthat made £1390.

Limousins from Lantonside, led the pence per kg section at 307.1p per kg for bullocks and to 303.5p for heifers.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 386 store cattle where Aberdeen-Angus form J Laird, West Shirva, Twechar, topped both the bullocks and heifers at £1450 and £1430 respectively.

Bullocks averaged 249p per kg and sold to 311p for Limousins from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, Slamannan, whilst heifers cashed in at 257p and hit 304p for more of the same breed this time from WHM and W Sloan, Mull Of Galloway, Drummore.

Limousins also led the bull trade at £1370 for Bonkle Estate, and to 273p for West Montgarswood.

Also forward were 723 store hoggs and feeding ewes, which soared to £98 for a pen of Texel lambs from I and W Wilson, Wood of Auldbar, Angus.

Hexham and Northern Marts offered 258 store cattle at their weekly sale, where trade peaked at £1860 for a Charolais cross steer from Ken Sisterson, Newlands Haugh.

Heifers were led by an Aberdeen-Angus from Graham Tweddle, Springwell, Tow Law, at £1650.

Some 2140 store hoggs sold to an improved trade on the week, where a pair of Suffolk crosses from S Robson, Airey Cottage, achieved £114.

All types of cattle were sought after at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of store cattle, where a high of £1530 was achieved on two occasions, firstly for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Wilson, the Belzies, and again for an Aberdeen-Angus from Messrs Jardine, Newbigging.

British Blue bullocks achieved £1380 from Messrs Wilson, Belzies.

Among the pence per kg, Charolais bullocks reached 280p for Messrs Spence, North Corrielaw, while Limousin heifers sold to 283p from Messrs Paterson, Terrona.

On Tuesday, C and D Auction Marts had forward 4504 store hoggs, cast rams and feeding ewes, which witnessed a top call of £125 for Texel feeding ewes from the Dykes.

A Beltex from High Hall, Westward, led the store hoggs at £109.

A mixed show of breeding sheep reached £340 for a pair of pure Texel gimmers from Messrs Connell, Wanton Walls, who sold one crop ewes at £310 and other gimmers to £280.
