A top price of £3120 and averages of over £2500 were some of the key highlights from the Gisburn Auction Marts’ pedigree dairy sale .
Sale leader, a Magee Macho sired heifer from J Seed and Son’s Thornley herd, Longridge, sold to Ribchester, Preston. The 33kg fresh heifer is out of a 60 tonne dam. Its herdmate, Thornley Macho Fauna went home in the same trailer for £3020.
The Seed family notched up an average of £2855 for six, including three second calvers, but it was a Delta Lambda fresh heifer – bred from another 60 tonne dam – which rounded off their trio topping at £3000 when it was knocked down to a local buyer.
The Aireburn herd of GB Moorhouse, Bell Busk, Skipton, also sold a heifer at £3000. This was Aireburn Fynn Echo out of a 10,835kg, high fat, high protein dam and which sold locally. The Moorhouses also paraded the reserve champion, a Miss America by Claynook Dealmaker, bred from a string of Ex including its own EX91 dam and EX90, 50 tonne grandam, she sold for £2980 to Mr Blezard.

The day’s champion was a King Doc heifer from WA and A Booth’s Feizor herd, North Yorkshire. Bred in their deep and highly classified Wendy family, it drew a £2950 bid from a Cheshire buyer.
Pedigree cows attained £2820 for a fourth calver from Clapham, Lancaster breeders, AH Price and Son’s Jackbeck herd. She sold giving 40kg, being sired by Riverdane Artist Red and a grandaugter of the nine lactation, 80 tonne, EX94(7) Wisconsin Rose Red. She found a new home with GE Airey and Sons, Longridge.
