Entries were forward from as far afield as Aberdeenshire and Yorkshire at C and D Auction Marts' Christmas show and sale, at Dumfries, on Monday, where 121 head were cashed.
Top price was £340 paid for a pedigree in-pig British Saddleback young sow from the Wensleydale-based consignment of Rowan Simms, purchased by JC Gemmell, Dunduff Farm, Dunure.
Leading the show, was the champion pair of Landrace cross Large White gilts, which tipped scales at 121kg. Consigned by Ian Stewart, Kirkpatrick Farm, Pinmore, they sold to the judge, Wendy Stamper, Chipping, at £300 each.
A good quality show, saw Large Black baconers from Argyll reach £220, with heavy sows to £160 and £150 (x3) and others to £140.
Boars were topped at £140 and £130, with cutters meeting a good demand at £105 and £100. Forward stores met a useful trade but weaners were still hard to cash.
Robert Kirkwood of Mouswald Grange, donated a cast British Saddleback Sow with the sale proceeds of £160 going to the Prader-Willi Syndrome charity.
