Not only was it a double female win in the suckled calf classes at the Borderway Agri Expo, staged at Carlisle today, the champion and reserve came from the same class.
The supreme was the May 2021 born Limousin cross heifer, Sassy Girl from Allen and Emma Shortt, Castlederg, County Tyrone, jointly owned by James and Katrina Little, Wigton. On her first outing she is a daughter of Trueman Idol and out of Ashmara Classy Girl.
The blue and white sash was awarded to the British Blue cross heifer, Prime Suspect from Blair Duffton, Gareth Smalls and Beth Wilkinson. Having been purchased for a record calf price of £9500 at Carlisle in March from John Smith-Jackson, Lipwood Well, Northumberland, she is sired by Tannant Lotto and out of a pure Limousin dam.
