Boclair Crushtime Apple secured the top price of 5200gns at the April Border and Lakeland Holstein club sale staged at Borderway Market.
This heifer from the the Brewster family, Bearsden, Glasgow, is a daughter of Col Dg Crushtime, out of Boclair Barbwire Apple Red, which is classified VG86 and she is a maternal sister to Boclair Jordy Apple Red VG87, which stood champion and sold for the top price of 6500gns at last year's June Border and Lakeland Club Sale. This girl heads across the water to Allmor Syndicate, N. Ireland.
Judging the pre-sale show was in the capable hands of Matthew Armour from the Annandale herd in Moffat, who found his champion in Espland Delta Lambda Ada from Alan Cannon, Espland Hill, Brampton, Appleby In Westmorland. She is the result of the Farnear Delta-Lambda sire onto Espland Uno Ada, and also sold across to Northern Ireland this time with Messrs Millar, Coleraine, County Londonderry.
Stowbeck Sidekick Lies was awarded the reserve champion for Skirwith Hall Farms, Skirwith, Penrith, which went on to realise 2550gns when finding a new home with Messrs Forsyth, Baltier, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. This heifer is a daughter of Walnutlawn Sidekick, out of Stowbeck Archimedes Lies and its grand dam, Stowbeck Bombero Lies is classified Ex93.
The same home sold Stowbeck Pepper Breeze for 2450gns to Messrs Byres, Woodslee, Canonbie. This girl is bred from seven Ex or VG dams all with high production, being out of Stowbeck Jordan Breeze herself which is classified VG86 and sired by Delaberge Pepper.
Newcroft Secretariat Pansy made her mark for David Airey, West Hall, Whittington, Carnforth, when selling for 2400gns to Messrs Paul and Son, Johnstonebridge, Lockerbie. An All.Nure Secretariat daughter, out of Newcroft Cinderdoor Pansy 2, which is classified VG88, she sold giving 31kg.
The same home donated Newcroft Ranger Quin, which went on to realise 2300gns with all the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. This heifer goes back to the Gillbrook Holstein herd in Pennsylvania in the USA, and was placed second in the February calf class last year in the Lancashire Calf Show. This special heifer was again purchased by the Baltier Farming Company, with Ted Fox from St Johns Kirk also contributing £250 to bring the total raised to £2665.
Next best at 2300gns was Balcurvie Silver Ivy from Gavin Struthers, Bankhead of Balcurvie, Windygate, Fife. This girl heads to Ayrshire with Hugh Watson, Ochiltree, Cumnock, who gets for his money a Seagull-Bay Silver daughter out of Balcurvie Flame Ivy.
Soulseat Rembrandt Elegance led the Brown Swiss cow trade at 2100gns for Robert and Shelia McColm, High Boreland, Lochans, Stranraer. This second calver is freshly calved and sold giving 46kg to Messrs Watson, Laigh Tarbag, Ayrshire.
