A mixed show of quality witnessed 971 prime lambs achieve an average of 240.3p per kg at Craig Wilson's weekly sale.

Topping the proceedings at £126 was Beltex from R Templeton and Co, Carslae, whilst more of the same breed also led the pence per kg at 270.7p from R Oxley, Barholm Mains.

Cast Sheep met a competitive trade realising £158 for Texels from MR McCornick, Boreland, Kirkcowan, who also topped the tups at £150 for Roussins.

Penrith

Texel cross lambs weighing 39kg came out on top at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart LLP weekly sale, when achieving 303p per kg for Messrs Lyle, Staingills, to cash in at 242p.

The cast ewe section topped at £230 per head for a pair of Texels from Gate Farm, which sold to average a staggering £110.47 (up £15 on the week).

On Monday, the firm held their fortnightly sale of prime cattle, where Limousin cross British Blue bulls achieved 230.5p per kg for Messrs Raine, Fog Close.

Heifers peaked at 244.5p from D Raine, Old Parks.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of primestock included 1602 lambs and 260 cast ewes and rams, where Beltex lambs realised £138 from Glanton Town.

Cast sheep met a resounding trade with a sale average of £115.56, and a top of £155 for a Texel from P Guiry and Son, Glanton Town Farm.

Cast tups peaked at £143 for a pair of Texels from VS Allgood, Reaveley.

Forfar

Limousin bullocks from Nethermyres, achieved 2.57p per kg and £1607.50 at Lawrie and Symington's weekly prime sale.

More of the same breed also topped the heifers at 2.68p on two occasions, from the Gask and West Bog, and top per head at £1529.50 again came from the Gask.

Also forward were 469 new season lambs, which sold to a top of 297p per kg and £140 for a 47 kg Beltex from GS Strachan, Clochie. An overall average of 235p was achieved with a SQQ of 233p.

Texels topped both the ewes and rams at £135 from Grange of Conon, and to £136 from Glensaugh respectively.

Cockermouth

A Limousin heifer led the trade stakes at Mitchells Livestock Centre's weekly sale when selling for 222p per kg and £1239.06 from Messrs Bowe, Hunday, Workington.

The same home also topped the bulls at 222p, whilst top per head among the bulls was £1298.88 paid for an Aberdeen-Angus from A and C Park, Sea View, St. Bees.

Black and Whites sold to 194p or £1166.22 for a Friesian from WE and DE Litt, Greengill, Gilcrux.

A larger entry of 1516 lambs sold to an average of 244p per kg, hitting £145.50 for a pair of Texels from JD Hetherington and Son, Blue Dial, and to 312.5p for Beltex lambs from Messrs Woodman, Spring Bank, St Bees.

All classes sold much dearer on the week being £10-£15 up across the board, selling to a top of £172 for a Suffolk ram from A Mawson, Bridgewater, Bootle, whilst ewes peaked at £141 for Texel cross ewes from J and D Hodgson, Parsonage, Brigham.

Huntly

Some 1101 prime sheep were forward for United Auctions' weekly sale, where New season lambs balanced out at 227p per kg.

A top of 305p per kg was paid for a 38kg Beltex from Redwood, Alford, and to £126 for a 58kg Suffolk from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Texels dominated both the ewes and rams at £185 from Wedderburn, and to £120 from Rattray Estates, respectively.

Stirling (Cale)

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 228p per kg and 233p respectively at Caledonian Marts weekly prime sale.

Limousin heifers from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, led the proceedings, achieving a top of 272p per kg and £1754.

Among the bullocks it was more of the same breed that came out on top this time from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Crossford, when making 252p and £1633.

A dairy bred Aberdeen-Angus bull sold for 205p and £1548 from WJF Ramsay, Inshanks, Stranraer, the same home also topped the Friesian bulls at 198p and £1454.

The firm also sold 1610 prime hoggs, ewes and tups at their weekly primestock sale, following the national trend the trade was slightly easier but still averaged a respectful 218p per kg, still up £6 per head on the year.

A Beltex lamb achieved a top of 285p and £137 for Doune Farms, West Lundie.

Cast ewes peaked at £159 for Beltex crosses from A Wright, West Lundie.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 5762 prime sheep comprising of 4072 new season lambs average – which achieved an average of 225.05p per kg – and 1690 ewes and rams.

New season lambs reached £127 for Texels from Kincraigie, and to 277p per kg for Beltex from Easterton.

Cast ewes peaked at £180 for Texels from Moor, whilst Cheviots came out on top among the tups at £190 for Gilston.

Thainstone

Trade was similar on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale of 43 prime cattle, bullocks and heifers under 30 months averaged 232p (+9.9p) and 230.8p (-3.7p) respectively.

Limousin crosses dominated the bullocks at 257p per kg for a 600kg entry from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie, and £1587.90 for a 670kg beast from Roundhome, Corse.

More of the same came out on top among the heifers at 261p for a 480kg lot from Cairncoullie and to £1565.10 for a 705kg heifer from Chapelford, Buckie.

Young bulls reached 203p for a 650kg Limousin cross from Hillocks, Whiterashes, and to £1814.40 for a 960kg Charolais cross from Mains of Leask, Slains.

A larger entry of prime lambs followed the national trend and saw all classes sell at lesser rates, selling to a top of 266.7p per kg for 42kg Beltex crosses from Nether Drumallochie, Glenkindie, and to £130 for a 54kg Beltex from Broadwater, Skene, to cash in at 219.1p.

Feeding ewes and rams (808) averaged £81.74 and sold to £175 for Texel ewes from Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk.

Longtown

A larger show of 3695 new season spring lambs were forward at C and D Auction Marts' sale, which are still trading at 20-25p per kg in front of last year’s prices, with an overall sale average of 232.6p per kg and a SQQ of 232.8p.

The sale topped at 288p for Beltex lambs from JA and LA Thompson, Woodhead, Scaleby, and to £145 for Texel lambs from J Sugden, The Lodge, Dumfries.

A bumper show of 4534 ewes sold to £234 for Texels from NR Edmondson, Dairy House Ford, Berwick, whilst hill ewes reached £114 for Cheviots from AR Bell and Son, Kirkton, Hawick with Blackface ewes also hitting £114 from Messrs McClymont, Tinnis, Selkirk.

Rams to £280 for Texels from Marygate.

A larger entry of cast cows forward realised 128p for Angus cows from TN Cavers and Co, Sorbie, Langholm, top per head of £1029 came from Sorbie.

Lanark

On Monday, heifers from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, led the way at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale of 190 cattle, selling to 270p per kg and £1663.

Bullocks sold to 246p from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, and to £1643 from Messrs Taylor, South Arnloss, Slamannan.

Another good show of 87 calves and stirks were also forward, where stirks topped at £545 for an Aberdeen-Angus bull from Branchalburn.

Beef bull calves peaked at £400 for a Simmental from Gartclush, with heifers reaching £395 on two occasions for British Blues from the same home. Dairy bull stirks topped at £240 from Branchalburn for a pair of Holsteins, with calves reaching a top of £140 on three occasions for Holsteins from Hawksland, Swaites and Hillend.

Among the sheep lines, trade peaked at £129 for Texel lambs from Messrs Cullen, Craighead, and to 258p for Beltex from Messrs Goodfellow, Townfoot, to achieve an overall average of 217p and a SQQ of 218p.

Ayr

Texel lambs realised £122 on two occasions at Craig Wilson's weekly sale firstly from David Walker and Sons, Camregan, and again for Sannox Estate, Home Farm.

Top price per kg was 265.9p for a pen of Texels from A and B McHarg, Broadhead, with the sale cashing in at 223.2p.

Cast ewes achieved £210 for Texels from B Notman, Reddings.

On Tuesday, the firm also sold 16 prime cattle, where heifers and steers cashed in at 246.2p per kg and 236p respectively.

A Limousin heifer led the way at 269p for Chris Smith, North Boig, New Cumnock, whilst steers peaked ar 257p for a Charolais from Messrs Wilson, Carskerdo, Cupar, Fife.

Dairy cows sold to £1250 for a Black and White from J Walker, Barwinnock, Whauphill, and to 167.2p for a Black and White from the Kennedy family, Perryston, Ayr.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly prime sale witnessed bullocks (14) and heifers (32) cash in at 244p per kg and 246p respectively.

Bullocks sold to £1553.16 and 258p per kg for Lurdenlaw, whilst heifers made 269p and £1576.34 for Bee Edge.

Beltex from Blackadder Mains, triumphed among the prime lambs topping both sections at £139 and 278p per kg, to balance out at £96.84.

Cast ewes peaked at £163 for a Suffolk cross ewe from Philiphaugh Estate, whilst a pen of 11 Greyface Mules sold to £133 from Harelawside Pn/ship.

Quoybrae

Two centre records were smashed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts prime sale, firstly for a record number of 978 feeding ewes and rams forward which resulted in the second record being taken when ewes topped at £202 for a pair of Texel ewes from AG Simpson, Cairnside, Oldha.

Prime lambs averaged 224.2p per kg and sold to 269p for a 42kg Beltex from Upper Northfield, Wick, and to £121 for a 47kg Texel from Hill of Forss, Thurso.

Carlisle

A smaller entry of 25 prime cattle were on offer at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale on Monday.

Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, topped the runnings at 245.5p per kg and £1887 for Limousin bullocks, and to 247.5p and £1784 for a Limousin cross heifer.

More of the same breed from Messrs Blake, Halfway, made 249.5p and £1711 for a bullock.

Some 86 bulls were also on offer, where trade peaked at 243.5p per kg and £1926 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill.

The firm also held their weekly sale of prime sheep where a lighter show of 2045 were forward, which witnessed an overall average of 235.7p or £102.53.

Leading the way at £164 and 328p per kg was a 50kg Texel lamb from IT Goldie, Greenfield.

Among the cast sheep, it was a Texel ewe that secured the top spot at £152 for Hargill House, whilst rams peaked at £128 for Bluefaced Leicesters from Cold Shields.

Dingwall

Bullocks and heifers averaged 240.4p per kg and 236.2p respectively at Dingwall and Highland Marts weekly sale.

A 615kg Limousin cross led the bullocks at 250.0p per kg and £1537.50 for A MacLaren, Cullaird, Scaniport.

Heifers sold to 246.0p for a 545kg Limousin cross from J Eddie and Sons, Hallhill, Kinneff, and to £1443.75 for a 625kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Bridgend, Dingwall.

More than 800 prime sheep also came through the ring, with new season lambs (376) cashing in at 224.5p (-21.8p) .

Texels led the proceedings at 253.3p per kg for 45kg Texels from Lochdhu, Nairn and to £118 for 53kg entries from Wester Moy, Urray.

Feeding sheep (435) sold to £146 on two occasions, both for Texel ewes from The Workshop, Wester Cairnglass and again from Teanluick, Beauly.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 1372 prime and cast sheep, where a top of £126.50 was paid for Texel lambs from Messrs Grierson, Dunmuir Road, and to 293.8p per kg again for Texels from Messrs Shaw, Killochy.

The 920 prime lambs that were forward averaged 222.27p

Cast sheep sold to £145 on two occasions for Texel ewes from Messrs Watson, High Borgue and from Messrs Kerr, Fagra.

Wigton

More quality forward resulted in a sharper trade for all classes at Hope's Auctioneers' sale, topping at 270.5p per kg for a 526kg Limousin heifer from JG and M Little, Greenhill, and to £1596 for a Charolais weighing 653kg from Messrs Dent, Elm House.

Bullocks peaked at 245.5p for a 612kg Limousin from DA Harrison and Co, Hill House, and to £1685 for a 689kg Limousin from Messrs Lawson and Sons, Hundith House.

A 47kg Beltex led the way among the prime lambs when achieving £163 for Sarah Peile, Beech House, Blencogo, to cash in at 250.63p per kg.

Top price per kg was 363.6p for a 44kg Beltex from A and MJ Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall.

It was Texels that came out on top among the cast ewes at £158 for JB and EJ Peile, Greystoke Castle.
