James and Sarah Cooper’s Tomschoice pedigree herd from Hill Top, Dacre, Harrogate, secured both the pre-sale championship and the top price of 6200gns at Skipton’s Auction Mart’s annual Craven Limousin Day, with two different animals.

Sale leader was the December 2019-born intermediate bull, Tomschoice Percy, which stood third in his class at the pre-sale show. A son of the 14,000gns Goldies Nicholas, he is bred from the Carwin Icaros daughter, Tomschoice Mercy, and sold to Kirklees husband and wife, Matthew and Emma Shaw, who run the Pleashaw herd in Shelley, near Huddersfield.

The 2017-born Goldies Nicholas from the Coopers also made an appearance in the sale ring as a senior bull as he is now coming back to his own daughters and sold for 5700gns to KG Burrow, of Dent, Sedbergh.

The champion, Tomschoice Ibiza, a nine-year-old cow by the Haltcliffe Vermount son, Tomschoice Falcon, sold with three-month-old heifer calf for 3300gns to Tim Vickers, Malton, North Yorkshire. Ibiza is bred from Tomschoice Fiesta, while the calf is by Scorboro Nero.

Second top price was 6000gns paid for Oddacres Reggie, a 15-month-old son of Procters Major, bred from Oddacres Lady, a daughter of the French import Gallois, from John and Claire Mason’s local Oddacres herd in Embsay. Reggie headed home with the Walker family, Appletreewick.

Judge Colin Lewis, Wales, found his champion and reserve winners amongst the males in bulls from Procters Farm, Slaidburn.

Both are AI sons of the Haltcliffe Doctor son, Goldies Jazz, with the male champion and reserve overall, Proctors Rambo, a 14-month-old bull, selling for 5600gns to Tom Robinson, Catlow, Slaidburn. His dam is Glenrock Diamante, a cow bought five years ago that has bred bulls to 24,000gns.

Reserve male was the intermediate champion, Proctors Portillo, bred from the Haltcliffe Genesis daughter, Procters Myleina, which goes back to the imported French cow, Renoncule. Portillo made 5900gns to Jeff Pickles, Chapel-le-Dale.

Top price amongst the females was 4100gns paid for the six-year-old cow, Procters Livine, from D and A Blockley of the Kentucky herd, Drighlington, Bradford. This Ampertaine Foreman-sired cow sold with her Lodge Hamlet January-born heifer calf to Cumbria’s S Whitehead.

In all, the 81 head forward saw senior bulls average £5985; intermediates at £3628 and juniors at £2871. Maiden heifers levelled at £1620 and cows with calves at £2575.
