The sale of 29 prime cattle, 25 OTM’s and 557 prime sheep and cast ewes and rams was held by Lawrie and Symington, where bullocks (13) sold to a top of 236p and £1425.44 for a 604kg Limousin from the Gask, to level at 211p.

Heifers (16) topped at 260p for a 521kg Limousin from Nethermyres and to £1453.86 for a 591kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 228p.

New season lambs (59) peaked at 288p for a 43kg Texel cross from North Mains of Baldovan and to £132 on two occasions, firstly for a 52kg lamb from Balnagarrow, then followed by 48kg Suffolk crosses from Upper Tulloes, to average 256p.

Prime hoggs (444) met a steady trade topping at 219p from Glenmoy and to £110 from Strone, to level at 203p with an SQQ of 207p.

Suffolks from Strone dominated both the ewes and rams (54), with ewes making £100 and tups selling to £90.

Dumfries

C and D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of primestock, where prime cattle met an active demand selling to 234p for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett.

OTM's were again a sharper trade, topping at £1117.50 and 149p for a Limousin from Isle of Dalton.

In the prime sheep, spring lambs (30) sold to average 260p and peaked at 296p for Texels from Backburn and to £121 for Suffolk crosses North Cowshaw.

Prime hoggs (150) topped at £107 and 253p for Texels from Eastside, while cast ewes (159) reached a top of £127 for Charolais from Belridding and tups made £110 for Texels from Wellhill and Shancastle.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 828 prime sheep, where new season lambs (93) sold to 275p and £125 for 45.7kg Texels from Meikle Begshill, Drumblade.

Old season lambs (423) peaked at 258p for 42kg Beltex from Upper Tullochbeg, Huntly and to £123 for 86kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff, while the sale of ewes (312) reached a top price of £125 for Suffolk crosses from South Blachrie.

Stirling (Cale)

Some 162 cattle comprising of 109 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 53 OTM's was held by Caledonian Marts, where prime heifers sold to 235p and £1408 for a British Blue cross from Dalchirla Farms, Muthill, Crieff.

Prime bullocks peaked at 225p for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn and to £1468 for an Aberdeen Angus from J and J Brown, Loanrigg, Slamannan.

The sale of bulls (under 30 months) reached a top price of 215p for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk and to £1361 from J Caldwell, Moorfield, Kilmarnock.

A large show of feeding OTM’s averaged 126p, selling to 153p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn and to £1410 for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Thosk, Throsk.

In the sale of dairy cows, a top of 117p and £980 was achieved from W and M Wylie, Broompark, Torphichen, to level at 106p.

Cast males sold to £1300 for a Limousin from Rathillet Farms, Cupar and to 168p for a Bazadaise from T and E Tod, Nether Longford, West Calder.

Stirling (UA)

More than 6000 prime sheep were sold by United Auctions, where 481 spring lambs sold to average 252.33p and top at £129 and 287p for Beltex from Easter Ochtermuthill.

Prime hoggs (4725) sold to a top of £119 and 269p for Beltex from Cultburn to level at 204.31p, while Texel ewes and from Cherryfield made £167 and Bluefaced Leicester rams from Knock O Ronald peaked at £108.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts held their weekly primestock sale, where bullocks (12) averaged 198p (+11.7p) and sold 213p for a 580kg Limousin and £1332.45 for a 705kg British Blue from Nether Mains, Torphins, whilst heifers (26) levelled at 200p (+7.7p) and made 231p for a 525kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and £1367.70 for a 705kg Charolais from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt.

Young bulls (12) balanced out at 159.2p (+15.4p) and sold to 183p for a 605kg Limousin from Seaview, Sanday, and £1526.40 for a 960kg Shorthorn from Wrangham, Colpy, while 30-48 month bullocks (five) averaged 163.1p (+8.3p) and sold to 119p and £1174.10 for a 590kg Limousin from Bendauch, Kinellar.

The sale of heifers (six) (-1.8p) topped at 174p for a 580kg Limousin from Bendauch, and £1310.40 for a 840kg Charolais from Balthayock, By Perth, to average 158p, whilst beef cows (209) averaged 138.5p (+1.7p) and peaked at 178.7p for a 512kg Stabiliser from Howe Farm, Harray, and £1490 for a 968kg Charolais from Balthayock Farms, Perth.

Cast bulls (14) met a steady trade. selling to averaged 123.4p (+4.0p) and reaching a top price of 144.8p for a 974kg Limousin from Meikle Aucheoch, Maud, and £1525 for a 1222kg Limousin from Buchaam, Strathdon.

The sale of 2113 prime sheep, store lambs and feeding ewes and rams was also held, where new season lambs (251) peaked at 261.4p for 44kg Texel’s from Mains of Cowie, Stonehaven and £118 for 47kg

Beltex from Wester Biffie, Maud, to cash in at 227.4p.

Old season lambs (1187) averaged 209.9p and sold to 240.2p for 46kg Suffolks from Backhill Clackriach, Maud and £120 for 75kg Texel crosses from Mains of Drumwhindle, Ellon.

The sale of sheep over a year old (67) topped at £120, while store lambs (36) reached £74.50 for Continentals from Abbotswell Crescent, Kincorth.

Feeding ewes and rams (572) were greeted by a buoyant trade and peaked at £130 for Texel ewe’s from Milltown of Birness, Ellon.

Longtown

C and D Auction Marts had forward 7776 sheep comprising of 4821 prime hoggs, 175 prime lambs and 2780 cast ewes and rams at their weekly primestock sale, where a large entry of prime hoggs met a competitive trade, with the sale topping at 288p for Beltex hoggs from G Rae, Main Street, New Luce and to £138 for Texel hoggs shown by M and W Fotheringham, Drumcairn, Perth, to average 212.7p with an SQQ of 217.5p.

A larger offering of 175 spring lambs were forward and sold to 288p for Texel lambs from R Johnston, Kimmeter Green, Annan and to £128 for Suffolks from H Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan, to cash in at 244.7p.

Some 2780 ewes were forward to the usual buyers, where the sale was topped at £196 for Texel ewes from A and H McColm, Crailloch, Port William, with hill ewes selling to £88 for Cheviot's shown by G Jackson, Blackburn, Newcastleton and from Messrs Hepburn and Co., North House, Hawick.

Rams reached £136 for Texels from H and E Mckay, Victoria Street, Kirriemuir.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 87 clean cattle, 65 cast cows, 291 lambs, 880 hoggs and 305 ewes at their weekly primestock sale.

Bullocks (29) and heifers (57) averaged 203p per kg and 211p respectively, selling to 233p from Penston and £1477.08 from West Blanerne.

Cast cows (65) were greeted by a steady trade, selling to average 139p per kg and topping at 167p from Penston and to £1330 from The Finches.

The sale of spring lambs (291) cashed in at 258p (-3p on the week) and sold to £135 for Texels from Ballencrieff Mains and to 284p for Texels from Coltcrooks.

A good show of well fleshed hoggs were forward, where the sale levelled at 208p (+5p on the week) and prices reached 243p for North Country Cheviots from Boghall and to £117 for the same breed, this time from North Synton.

Another strong trade was witnessed in the sale of ewes and rams, where Texel ewes topped at £123 from North Synton, to average £83. Heavier types cashed in at £100, while light ewes sold to £99 for Cheviot's to average at £78.

Texels dominated the rams, topping at £121 from Blackburn.

Lanark

More than 150 cattle comprising 68 bullocks and heifers, and 93 cast cows and bulls were forward for Lawrie and Symington's sale.

Top price per kg amongst the heifers was 264p and £1530 paid for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bullocks peaked at 228p per kg for a Limousin from Mrs Pettigrew, Faskine Farm, Airdrie and to £1345 for another of the same breed from Girtridge.

Spring lambs (150) were topped at £142 for Texels from Hamilton, Rowantreehill and to 317p for Beltex from Padkin, Drumcork, to average 273p with an SQQ of 281p.

Hoggs (1226) peaked at £124 per head for Texels from Stevenson, Langshaw and Shanks, West Glespin and to 262p for Texels from Taylor, Southholm, to level at 216p with an SQQ of 225p.

Another large entry of 1515 cast ewes and rams saw trade reach £189 for Texel ewes from Meikle, Newhouse, whilst rams peaked at £129 for Texels from Tower.

Carlisle

A total of 70 prime bulls were forward at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly primestock sale, where Messrs JC and SE Little, The Guards topped the bulls at £1367 and 224.5p with a Limousin, while dairy bred bulls sold to £1129 or 166.5p from Messrs A and L Gott, Prospect House.

A smaller show of 272 cast cows and bulls were forward where top overall at £1471 and 186.5p was a Limousin cross from Messrs Bell, Haas Side Farm, Lockerbie, whilst black and white cows peaked at £1086 for a Holstein Friesian from Bowe Dairy Farming Co, Carlisle and to 163.5p for a Holstein from Messrs Beaty, Stonewalls, Carlisle.

Cast bulls made £1468 for a Limousin from Messrs Dixon, Haresceugh Castle, Penrith and to 167.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Wilson, Bowscale, Maryport. Black and white bulls topped at £1196 and 246.5p from Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton.

Some 50 prime cattle met a buoyant trade, where heifers topped at £1597 and 249.5p for a Charolais from Messrs Pearson, High Plasket Lands, Maryport, whilst steers peaked at £1526 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Blackford and to 212.5p for a bullock from Messrs Brough, Howgill.

The weekly sale of prime and cast sheep saw all classes sharper on the week where spring lambs (337) sold to average of 276.2p and topping at £178 or 414p for a Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall.

Hoggs sold to £115 for a pen of seven Beltex from Messrs Gardner, Glebelands, and to 266.7p for Texels from Messrs Sanderson, Upper Senwick, Kirkcudbright.

Ewes sold to better rates with a sale top of £128 being achieved for a Texel from Messrs Harker, Wigton, with horned ewes selling to £98 from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Mart sold 1587 sheep comprising 275 spring lambs, 884 prime hoggets and 428 cast ewes.

Spring lambs sold to average 256.7p and topped at £129 and 293.2p for Texel’s from Messrs Goldie, Dustyhall.

Hoggs sold to an improved trade, with a top of £120 being achieved for a Beltex off Messrs M Stevenson, Balcaimie, and to 257.1p for another pen of f Beltex’s off the same, with the whole sale averaging 209.9p.

Top price of the day was in the sale of ewes was £174 paid for a pair of Texel's from Messrs Stevenson, Balcaimie Farm, while cast tups peaked at £117.50 for Texel's from J Thomson, Blairbowie.
