Some 814 prime and cast sheep were sold at Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly sale, where 16 prime lambs sold to average 217.6p.
Top price was £104 for a Texel from A Wallace and Co, Claycrop, who sold three at 227.3p – the lead price per kg
The 629 hoggs averaged 196.5p with an SQQ of 202.5p. Top prices were £95.50 and 212.2p for Cheviots from A and J Wright, Pinmore Mains.
Blackfaces sold to 210p for a pen of 88 from JK Fisher and Sons, Cruggleton, which attained a top price of £92.
Cast sheep peaked at £113 and £111 for Texel crosses from A McCaig, Mount Pleasant.
Forfar
Lawrie and Symington had 39 cattle, three OTMs and 411 prime sheep and cast ewes and rams, at their sale where 14 bullocks sold to 231p and £1422.96 for a 616kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 213p per kg.
A top of 256p amongst the 18 heifers – for a 566kg Limousin from West Bog and a 537kg Limousin from Nethermyres. Top per head was £1446.96 for the 566kg Limousin from West Bog. Heifers averaged 225p.
The seven young bulls were topped by a Simmental from Kellyfield at £1202.
New season lambs sold to 254p twice for 48kg lambs from Upper Tulloes and to £122 on three occasions from the same home, to average 245p.
Prime hoggs (293) peaked at 273p for a 44kg Beltex from Scobshaugh and £128 from Mains of Dalrulzion for a 49kg Beltex, to cash in at 188p with an SQQ of 212p.
Dumfries
Just shy of 80 cattle were forward for C and D Auction Marts’ sale, where prices peaked at 235p for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett.
OTMs were topped at £1095.60 for a Simmental from Newbie Mains, and to 142p for a Simmental from Barnbackle.
Prime hoggs (561) peaked at £105 for Texels from Farthingwell, whilst cast ewes (171) reached £138 for Texels from Fardingjames. Texels also topped the rams ram trade at £95 from Abune the Brae.
Huntly
United Auctions sold 1376 prime sheep at their weekly sale where 19 new season lambs averaged 228.3p, selling to 250p for 44kg Texel from 16 Nether Dallachy, Spey Bay and to £110 from the same home and for 47.7kg Texels from Meikle Begshill, Drumblade.
Old season lambs (1015) averaged 204.8p, peaking at 233p for 40kg Beltex from Cobbleheugh, Dinnet, and to £108 for 64kg Texels from Dunscroft, Huntly.
Suffolks from Cranna Bridge topped the ewe trade at £119.
Stirling (Cale)
Caledonian Marts had 142 cattle comprising of 85 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 57 OTM cattle, at their sale.
Heifers sold to 238p for a Charolais from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, and to £1492 for a Charolais from DR Blair, Newbigging of Ceres, Cupar.
Bullocks were topped at 238p for a Limousin again from Nethermyres and to £1564 for a Limousin from Rathillet, Cupar.
OTM met a similar trade to average 124p, selling to 173p for a British Blue cow from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £1160 for a Limousin from B and W Lamont, Hawkhill, Kincardine.
Dairy cows peaked at 136p from R Miller, High Cattadale, Campbeltown, and to £850 from R Waugh, Summerhouse, Avonbridge, to level at 109p.
Stirling (UA)
The sale of 5919 prime sheep by United Auctions, saw 196 new season lambs sell to £118 for Suffolks from Catcune, and to 254p for Charolais from Bangour, to average 223p.
Prime hoggs (5167) cashed in at 200p, reaching a top price of £131 for Beltex from Cuiltburn and to 291p for Beltex from Wardhead.
Trade was similar on the week for the 556 ewes which were topped by Carrabus with Texels at £159.00 while tups sold to £124 for Suffolks from Hatton Knowe.
Thainstone
Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 54 prime cattle, where seven bullocks averaged 181p (+1.4p) having sold to 213p for a 590kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and to £1276.05 for a 705kg Charolais from Rivefold, Ythanwells.
Heifers (29), averaged 192.3p (-6.3p) from a top price of 229p for a 495kg Limousin and £1305.40 for a 610kg Limousin, both from Stoneyhill, Keith.
The 10 young bulls cashed in at 140.8p (-12.5p), having sold to 163p for a 845kg Limousin from Crichie, Inverurie, and £1404.30 for a 930kg Simmental from Brodieshill Farm, Alves.
Beef cows (204) averaged 138.3p (+0.3p) and sold to 183.4p per kg for a 616kg British Blue from Fairburn, Longmanhill, and to £1590 for a 1088kg Charolais from Over Finlarg Farm, Tealing.
Dairy cows (11) averaged 95.4p (-11.8p) and sold to 105.4p per kg and £915 gross for a 868kg Holstein from Darrahill, Udny.
The sale of 3095 prime sheep and feeding ewes saw seven new season lambs average 230.9p having sold to 233.3p and £105 for 45kg Suffolk crosses from Lachlanstrype, New Pitsligo.
Old season lambs (2459) were topped at 235.9p for 39kg Beltex from The Ranch, Thainstone and to £132 for 74kg Beltex from Rivehill, Kingswells, to level at 198.4p (-6.1p) with an SQQ of 212.7p (-7.4p).
Store old season lambs (275) made £86 for Texels from Russland, Westray, whilst feeding ewes and rams (354) sold to £124.50 for Beltex from Rowland, Holm.
Longtown
At C and D Auction Marts’ sale some 1600 hoggs, 56 lambs and 1011 cast ewes and rams were forward which saw hoggs sell to 275p for Texels from D and D Aitken, Uppercleuch, Lockerbie, with top price per head of £120 paid for Dutch Texel hoggs from Messrs McDowall, Culquhasen, Glenluce.
An overall sale average of 203.6p was achieved with an SQQ of 211.6p.
A smaller show of 1011 ewes and rams was topped at £182 for Texel ewes from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House, Arkleby with hill ewes selling to £79 for Cheviots from JT Fleming and Son, Falnash, Hawick.
A Hampshire topped the rams at £142 for Messrs Rutherford and Co, Guards Farm, Gretna.
St Boswells
Some 70 clean cattle, 62 cast cows, 720 hoggs and 277 ewes were forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, where bullocks (27) and heifers (42) averaged 200p (-10p) and 213p (+5p) respectively.
Cast cows (62) cashed in at 135p (+1.0p) having peaked at £1375 and 163p from Low Middleton, while clean cattle made £1419 and 235p from Bee Edge.
Prime hoggs (720) balanced out at 188p (-11p) having sold to £110 for Suffolks from Boghall and to 225p for Beltex crosses from Lylestane.
Ewes averaged £78, selling to £121 for a Texel from Middlethird. Heavy types levelled at £94 and light ewes cashed in at £71.
Lanark
Lawrie and Symington sold 123 cattle comprising 45 bullocks and heifers, four young bulls and 74 cast cows.
A Limousin sold to 256p to top the heifers for D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie and to 256p for a Limousin from Brockwoodlees.
Limousins also topped the bullocks, selling at 220p from Messrs Cook, Kinneil Mill, Linlithgow and to £1391 from South Arnloss.
Friesian cows sold to £1045 from Messrs Woodside, Boghall Farm, Biggar and to 123p from Newhouse, whilst beef cows peaked at £1215 for a Limousin from Messrs McGarva, Nether Abington Farm, Abington and to 168p from Todhall.
Some 1795 hoggs were also forward, and was topped at £129 for Texels from Messrs Clark, Wellhead and to 305p for Beltex from Messrs Frame, High Dyke, to level at 217p with an SQQ of 229.4p.
The 379 cast ewes and rams peaked at £179 for a Texel from Messrs Gibson, Cowgrove, whilst tups reached £130 for a Texel from Hillend.
Carlisle
Some 312 cast cows, 90 young bulls, 54 cattle, 670 hoggs, 145lambs and 202 cast sheep were forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s prime sale, which was topped at £1706 by a Limousin cow from Messrs Barclay, South Road.
Top price per kg amongst the cows was 175.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Callion, Lodge Farm, Workington.
Young bulls were topped at £1665.30 by a British Blue bull from Messrs Hall, Ainstable Hall and to 219.5p for a Limousin from Iain Graham, Rose Castle.
Clean cattle peaked at £1621.40 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse Farm, with heifers to £1549.94 for a Limousin from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well. A British Blue heifer topped the pence per kg section at 236.5p from Messrs Brough, How Gill.
Spring lambs sold to £152 and 345.5p for a 44kg Beltex entry from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall, Dalston, to average of 247p with an SQQ of 260p.
Hoggs sold to £114 from RD Horn, Field House, Penrith, and to 250p from Messrs Noble, Mill Farm, Bekermet, while cast ewes and rams sold to £134 twice from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith.
Ayr
Craig Wilson Mart sold 1371 sheep comprising 1056 prime hoggets, 50 spring lambs and 265 cast sheep. Topping the spring lamb sale at £125 and 304.9p was a pen of four Texel’s off Messrs J Nisbet, Orchardton Farm, to average 250p.
A mixed show of hoggets met a brisk trade, to level at 197.4p with an SQQ of 208p.
Topping the sale at £109 was Messrs M Stevenson, Balcaimie for a pen of Beltex’s and to 245.2p for another pen of four Beltex’s off the same.
Top price Blackies at £92 was a pen off Messrs Thomas Barr, Shieldhill or to 208p for a pen off J W Kay and Son, Gass.
On Tuesday, the firm sold 196 prime and cast cattle, where all classes met a similar trade on the week.
Overall, 13 heifers averaged 218.4p per kg or £1185.12 per head, while the three bullocks cashed in at 179.2p or £1078.42.
Top price was 230p paid twice for a Limousin cross heifers from North Boig and Mansfield Mains.
