Some 619 prime and cast sheep were forward at Craig Wilson’s sale, where 505 hoggs sold dearer on the week to average 203.4p.

Top price was £99 paid for a pen of 40 Cheviots from A and J Wright, Pinmore Mains, who also topped the pence per kg section for Beltex at 234.2p.

The 348 Blackface hoggs sold to £93.50 and 221.1p from Fergus Fisher, Mark Farm, to level at 204.8p.

Cast sheep met a steady trade, selling to £129 for a Suffolk from P and A Wilson, Spoutwells, whilst Mules sold to £93 from Torhousemuir Farming Co and Blackies to £77 from R Hannah, Blackloch.

Tups hit £111 for a Beltex from S Service, Balgreggan and a Texel from B Vance, Mid Skeog.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington sold 27 prime cattle and 675 prime sheep and cast ewes and rams, at it’s weekly sale where bullocks (11) sold to 244p and £1503.04 for a 616kg Limousin from Nethermyres, to cash in at 224p per kg.

Limousins led the heifers (16), selling to 261p and £1495 for a 573kg entry from Nethermyres, to level at 227p.

Prime hoggs (604) reached a top of 274p and £115 for a pen of 42kg Beltex from Balbrydie, to average 198p, with an SQQ of 210p.

Dumfries

At C and D Auction Mart’s sale some 47 cattle were forward at their weekly sale, where prime cattle sold to 220p for a Limousin cross heifer from Low Three Mark.

OTM’s again met a competitive trade, with a top of £942.40 achieved for a Simmental from Cormaddie and 130p per kg for a Limousin from Midtown.

Prime hoggs (502) met a spirited demand, averaging 216.6p with a top price of 247p for Beltex from Drumcork and £100 for Texels from Kiraugh, whilst Charolais from Maryholm led the sale of 192 cast ewes at £129.

Huntly

Trade remained buoyant at United Auctions’ sale of 2458 prime sheep, where old season lambs (1752) averaged 201.88p, selling to 219p for 37kg Charolais crosses from Craigieview, Aberchirder and £99 for 62kg Texels from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Ewes sold to a top of £160 for Texels from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cale)

Limousins were in demand at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 138 cattle comprising of 87 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 51 OTM cattle.

Prime heifers sold to 250p per kg for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch and to £1504 for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn, whilst prime bullocks peaked at 238p for a Limousin again from Learielaw and to £1513 for the same beast and for a Limousin from A A and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty.

A Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch topped the bulls at 208p and £1357, while OTM’s averaged 122p, selling to 152p for a Shorthorn from Dindinnie Farming, Stranraer and to £1180 for a Simmental from Devonside Farms, Saline.

Dairy types cashed in at 95p, selling to 108p from R and W Waugh, Summerhouse, Avonbridge and £800 from J and J Kinloch, Walton, Cardross.

On Tuesday the firm sold 1619 spring lambs, hoggs and cast sheep.

New season lambs (13) sold to £120 for a Suffolk and Charollais cross from J Wilson, Balhelvie and for a Texel cross from I and G Farmer, Balbedie, who also produced the lead price per kg at 245p with the Texel cross

Hoggs averaged 186.4p (-10p on the week) selling to £119 for four 45kg Belte from JM McDonald, Newbigging and 266p per kg for three 43kg Beltex from RA Campbell and Son, Meikle Seggie.

The 439 cast ewes and rams saw heavy ewes average £105.23 having sold to £158 for Texels from JAC Stewart, Kininmonth, Ceres with export types averaging £67.72 from a top price of £95 for Cheviots from R Bell and Partners, Craigo, Milnathort.

Cast rams peaked at £130 for Suffolks from R Brewster and Son, Broom, Causewayhead.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 6265 prime sheep at their weekly sale comprising 44 spring lambs and 776 ewes and rams and 5445 hoggs.

Old season lambs averaged 207.75p.

New season lambs (44) were topped at £124.00 for Hampshire Downs from West Lecropt while lead per kg was 299.00p for Beltex from Gillbank.

Doune Farms topped the old season lambs at £136.00 for Beltex, while more of the same from Luckenburn made was 305p per kg.

Ewes (776) met a similar trade selling to £162.00 for Texels from Broomknowes

Texels also led the tup trade at £140.00 from Westhall.

Thainstone

More than 40 prime cattle and 3799 prime and store sheep, as well as feeding ewes and rams, were forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ weekly sale.

Prime bullocks (six) met a poorer trade, averaging 182.7p (-7.9p on the week) selling to 215p and £1311.50 for a 610kg British Blue from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Cashing in at 196.2p (+2.1p), prime heifers (29) sold to 227p and £1418.75 for a 625kg Limousin from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall, whilst 30-48 month-old heifers (five) reached 209p and £1426.25, to level at 175.7p.

Trade for old season lambs (2921) was up on the week, selling to 248.7p for 39kg Texels from Vale View, Tough and £110 for 57kg Texels from Newton of Greeness, Turriff, to average 192.1p (+8.2p) with an SQQ of 213.8p (+22.9p) being achieved.

Store hoggs (357) sold to £83.50 for Suffolks from Dava Farms, Grantown on Spey, while feeding ewes and rams (521) peaked at £145 for Texels from Home Farm Auchry, Cuminestown.

Longtown

At C and D Auction Marts’ sale, 6629 sheep comprising of 4331 prime hoggs, 111 store hoggs and 2187 cast ewes and rams were forward which sold to 320p per kg for Beltex hoggs from T Magnay, Brisco Meadows and £146 for Texels from Douganhill Farm, Orchardton Mains.

Hill hoggs sold to £100 for Cheviots from M and S Cameron, Balmaglester and from W Moffat, Kirtlebank, with Blackfaces to £92.50 from E and RE Eastham, Longburgh Fauld and D and Y Wilson, Plumpe, to average 206.9p with an SQQ of 219.4p.

St Boswells

Averages remained steady at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 73 clean cattle, 36 cast cows, 1435 hoggs and 257 ewes, with bullocks and heifers averaging 214p (+8.0p) and 214p (-3.0p) respectively.

Cast cows (36) levelled at 131p and sold to 181p (+7.0p), topping at £1238 from Kedzlie and to 181p from Ransfield, while clean cattle peaked at £1362 from Kedzlie and 235p from Penson.

Prime hoggs (1435) cashed in at 191p (-3.0p), selling to £108 for Suffolks from Boghall and to 262p for Texels from Waterside.

Ewes were harder to cash, selling to £143 for Suffolk crosses from Symington Mains, to average £87, while heavier types levelled at £107. Light ewes sold to £111 for Cheviots, balancing out at £86.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington sold 111 cattle comprising of 56 bullocks and heifers and 53 cast cows and bulls.

Limousins topped the heifers at 252p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie and £1504 from Todhall.

The same breed also led the bullocks, selling to 238p from Messrs Pettigrew, Faskine Farm and to £1444 from Brockwoodlees.

A Charolais cow made £1185 from J Wilson, Waulkmill Farm, Dunfermline, to top the beef section, while pence per kg peaked at 151p from Lawhead.

Dairy cattle were topped by a Friesian at £905 from J Brown, East Gartmillan, Airdrie and to 114p from Kirklands.

The 2553 hoggs were topped at £124 per head for Texels from Messrs Clark, Garngour and to 295p for Beltex from Messrs Downie, Newton of Crathie, to average 202p with an SQQ of 210.5p.

Cast ewes (2196) met a strong trade, peaking at £190 for Texels from Messrs Taylor, Heatheryhall and Blackfaces to £85 from Messrs Dickie, Carco. Rams peaked at £130 for Texels from Grayside.

Carlisle

Prime cattle sold dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 335 head which included 1378 prime and cast sheep.

Cast cattle met a strong trade with a top of £1435 being achieved for a Limousin from Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe and a Montbeliarde from Messrs Haston, Swordwellrigg, making183.5p.

Clean cattle were topped at £1486 by a Limousin bullock from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse Farm and 195.5p per kg for another Limousin from Halfway Well.

Heifers peaked at £1444 for a Limousin from Messrs Pearson, High Plasketlands and 235.5p for another of the same breed from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield.

Prime sheep sold to £142 and 322.7p for a new season Beltex lamb from Messrs Musgrave and Sons, Cardew Hall, whilst in the hogg section was topped at £122 for a Beltex from Messrs Anderson, Mesona, Dumfries and 264.3p for another Beltex from Messrs Bell, Cockermouth.

Cast ewes were led by a Beltex at £145 from Mesona with tups to £145 for Texels from Newhall Farm.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Mart sold 2042 sheep comprising 384 cast sheep and 1642 prime hoggets and 16 spring lambs.

Top price was £120 for a new season Texel lamb from WHM and W Sloan, Mull of Galloway and 269.1p for Texeks from the same home, with lambs averaging 242.3p.

Leading the hogg trade at £108 were Beltex from J Gatherer, Hill of Ochiltree and Texels from David Morrison, Dalwyne.

Top price per kg was 253.9p for Beltex from JH Sloan and Son, Dormieston.

Blackies sold to £92 from Seaton Bros, Ardrossan and A Woodburn and Son, Netherwood, with WW Kerr and Son, South Corton Farm topping pence per kg at 215.8p.

The whole sale averaged 203.9p with an SQQ of 217.9p.

The sale of 166 prime and cast cattle the following day, saw four bullocks and 14 heifers average 210.2p and 220p respectively.

Topping the heifers at £1469 and 249p per kg was a Charolais from CA Smith, North Boig.

Bullocks peaked at £1280 for a Limousin from JM Thomson and Son, Blairbowie and to 220p for a Charolais from Borland Farm.

Beef cows (40) sold to £1180 from AB Young, Girvan Mains twice and for a Charolais from Dykes Farm, Auchinleck. Top per kg was 154.3p for a Limousin from T and T Robertson, Creochhill, with the average working out at 120.2p.

Leading the dairy entries at £880 and 119.7p was a Holstein from J Cousar, Grange of Cree. They averaged 97.2p.

Castle Douglas

The sale of 1157 prime and cast sheep was held by Wallets Marts on Tuesday, where 923 prime hoggs sold to average 204.3p with an SQQ of 212.4p.

Hoggs sold to £107 twice, from Sheillahill Farming, Gelston, Castle Douglas for Beltex and again for Texels from Messrs Sturrock, Barwhanny, Palnackie.

Lead price per kg was 257.4p for lightweight Texels from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, Balmaclellan.

Cast sheep (234) sold to £133 for Texels from Rigghead, Shawhead.
