Newton Stewart
Some 1015 prime and cast sheep were forward at Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly primestock sale, where hoggs (946) met an increased average of 195.1p per kg.
Beltex from T Forsyth, Isle of Whithorn, topped the sale at £110 and 229.2p, whilst ewes peaked at £170 for Texels from JR Howie, Auchentibbert. Tups sold to £148 for Suffolks from JT and SA Cannon, Redbrae.
Forfar
Limousin bullocks from the Gask dominated Lawrie and Symington’s prime cattle sale, selling to 224p per kg and £1491.39 for a 605kg beast and a 681kg bullock, respectively, to average 214p.
Heifers (12) sold to 258p for more of the same breed weighing in at 540kg from Nethermyres, and to £1416.48 for a 624kg British Blue from West Bog, to level out at 234p.
More than 800 prime hoggs were forward, which averaged 197p with an SQQ of 204p. Topping the section at 302p per kg was Beltex from Balbrydie, and £124 for Texels from Newton of Fotheringham.
Dumfries
A buoyant demand was met at C and D Auction Mart sale of 34 cattle, with OTM’s meeting a higher demand.
Topping the sale at £954.80 was a Simmental from Abune the Brae, while top pence per kg was achieved on two occasions, firstly by a Limousin from Hunterhouse, and then for a Saler from Marwhirn, selling to 125p.
Prime hoggs (446) averaged 215.87p and sold to 250p for Texels from Riggheads, and to £109 for Beltex from Cleughbrae. A small show of cast ewes met a buoyant trade, selling to £149 for Texels from Maryholm.
Huntly
Trade improved at at United Auction’ sale of 1799 prime sheep, with the hogg class up as much as £10 per head on the week.
Old season lambs (1482) cashed in at 189.5p per kg selling to 212p for a 42.5kg Texel from Balnault, Crathie, and to £96 for a 47kg Continental from Muldearie Mains, Keith. Ewes sold to £150 for Texels from Sibmister and Stainland Farms, Thurso.
Stirling (Cale)
Some 1311 prime hoggs, ewes and tups were forward for Caledonian Marts’ weekly primestock sale, where hogg trade was sharper on the week to level at 194.1p (+29p per kg on the week).
Top price went to a 48kg Beltex from J Smith, Bankhead, selling to £125, while top price per kg was 283p paid for a 42kg hogg of the same breed from Doune Farms.
Ewes averaged £112.34 (+36.87) and sold to £150 for Suffolks from I McMillan, Eorrabus, Islay, whilst cast rams cashed in at £107.14 and sold to £132 for Texels from JAC Stewart, Kininmonth, Ceres.
The sale of 124 prime cattle comprised of 61 bullocks, heifers, young bulls and 63 OTMs, with heifers selling to 248p for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, and to £1462 for more of the same breed from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn.
Limousins also topped the bullocks at 230p and £1485 from Nethermyres.
Thainstone
Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 43 prime cattle at their weekly primestock sale, where Limousins took the top prices throughout, with bullocks (12) averaging 190.6p per kg (+9.8p) and sold to 215p and £1290 for a 600kg Limousin from Newton of Drum, Drumoak.
Heifers (24) levelled at 194.1p (-8.2p) and peaked at 225p for a 565kg Limousin from Bruce of Broch, Fraserburgh, and £1352.40 for a 735kg Limousin from New Mains, Glenkindie.
Some 1822 prime sheep and feeding ewes and rams were also sold, with old season lambs (1368) averaging 183.9p per kg (-5.8p) and topping at 235.7p for 42kg Beltex from Newton of Greeness, Turriff, and to £108 for 66kg Texels from Kingswells Croft, Oyne.
New season lambs (10) sold to 211.1p for 45kg Charollais from Clochtow, Collieston, and to £99 for 49kg Dorsets from Uppermill, Kintore, to level at 188.2p, whilst store old season lambs (173) sold to £84.50 for Suffolks from East Thunderton, Longside.
Feeding ewes and rams (271) were steady, topping at £160 for Texels from 35 Main Street, New Deer.
Longtown
Prime sheep were in demand at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3551 prime hoggs, 140 store hoggs and 1482 cast ewes and rams.
A small entry of cast cows topped at 112p from Williams Jones Farms, South Muasdale, Argyll.
Bulls made 110p for a Simmental from Waterhead of Dryfel, and 105p for a Limousin from JW Davidson and Co, Crosslee.
Topping the sale of hoggs at 320p per kg was Beltex from B Ryder, Newton Cottage, whilst top price per head was £135 for Beltex hoggs from R and M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay.
An increased entry of cast ewes sold well to top at £180 for Texel ewes from J Robertson and Son, Becks Farm.
St Boswells
Averages were up at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 71 clean cattle, 20 cast cows, 908 hoggs and 281 ewes, with bullocks and heifers averaging 206.33p per kg (+5p) and 217p (+3p) respectively.
Clean cattle peaked at £1441.44 from Bee Edge and 234 from Nisbet. A plainer show of cast cattle were forward, averaging 124p per kg and selling to 147p and £1190 from Soutra.
Well fed hoggs were easily cashed, with 908 hoggs levelling out at 194.44p (+4p on the week) and peaking at £117 for Suffolks from Spotsmains, and to 228p for Texels from Leaston.
Ewes averaged £91.54 and sold to £148 for Texels from Huntington.
Lanark
Lawrie and Symington had 120 cattle forward comprising of 39 bullocks and heifers, six young bulls and 75 cast cows at their weekly primestock sale.
Limousin crosses from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, topped the heifers at 254p per kg and £1535.
A British Blue cross bullock sold to 238p and £1437, from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, whilst young bulls peaked at £1533 from Little Kype.
A smaller show of 2078 prime hoggs were forward, with the sale topping at £144 for Beltex from Downie, Newton of Crathie, and to 314p per kg for Texels from Struthers, Collielaw, to level at 211.8p with an SQQ of 217.5p.
The sale of 617 cast ewes and rams saw a big lift in trade, with prices peaking at £183 for Texels from Warnock, Dreva.
Ayr
Prime sheep met a strong trade at Craig Wilson’s sale of 1837 prime hoggs and 487 cast ewes and tups, where a top price of 271.1p per kg and £125 was achieved for Beltex from J and R Semple, Netherton.
Blackface hoggs sold to £98.50 from M Woods, Shawsknowe, and to 218.6p from J Kennedy and Son, Perryston, with the sale averaging at 212p, with an SQQ of 226p.
Castle Douglas
Some 810 prime and cast sheep were forward for Wallets Marts’ sale where 697 prime hoggs sold to average 208.4p per kg with an SQQ of 213.2p.
Top price was £108 paid for Texel hoggs from Messrs Smith North Boig, New Cumnock, and to 259p for Beltex hoggs from Messrs MacTaggart, Craigview.
Suffolk ewes topped the cast sheep at £125 from Castlehill.
