Newton Stewart

Some 395 prime and cast sheep were forward at Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly primestock sale, where hoggs (372) sold to average 186.9p, selling to £97 and 220.5p per kg for Texels from High Mark Farm.

Cast sheep sold to £70 for a Texel tup from W and S Kerr, High Borland, who also topped the ewes at £67 for Mules.

Forfar

Limousins dominated Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 23 prime cattle, where bullocks (7) sold to 228p per kg for a 607kg animal from the Gask, and to £1475.86 for a 677kg from Nethermyres, to average 216p.

Heifers (23) peaked at 259p for a 527kg Limousin again from Nethermyres, and to £1408 for a 640kg British Blue cross from Craignathro, to level at 223p.

More than 500 prime sheep were forward, where hoggs averaged 175p with an SQQ of 185p. Topping the section at 250p per kg were Beltex from Balbrydie, and £110 for Texels from Newton of Fotheringham.

Huntly

Trade was back at United Auctions’ sale of 1265 prime sheep, where old season lambs (1092) balanced out at 170.8p, selling to 192p per kg for 48kg Cheviots from Drumwhindle Mains, Ellon, and to £94.50 Texels from Blairgorm, Nethybridge.

In the ewes, the sale saw a top price of £96 achieved for Suffolk from Murza, whilst tups topped at £101 for a Charollais tup from Blairgorm, Nethybridge.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts’ sale of 97 prime cattle saw Limousins lead the trade, with heifers selling to 240p per kg for a beast from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch, and to £1531 for another from Ross Farms, Wester Middleton, Gorebridge.

Bullocks topped at 240p and £1574 for a Limousin from A A and J Brand.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions had forward 4976 prime sheep comprising of 28 spring lambs and 4606 prime hoggs, selling to average 206.90p per kg.

New season lambs (28) were topped by Suffolk from Newton of Collessie, selling to £120 and 259p, whilst old season types (4606) peaked at £145 and 322p for Beltex from Luckenburn.

Texels topped the trade in the ewes at £144 from Woodhill, whilst a Texel tup from Slatich sold for £120.

Thainstone

Trade remained similar on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts primestock sale, which saw prime bullocks (15) levelling at 180.8p and selling to 217p per kg for a 605kg Limousin from Woodside of Balgaveny, Forgue, and to £1327.15 for a 635kg British Blue from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Heifers (16) cashed in at 202.3p and sold to 237p for a 575kg Limousin from Hillocks, Whiterashes, and to £1395.15 for a 655kg Simmental from Roselea, Fetternear.

Some 1075 prime sheep were also forward, where, old season lambs (658) averaged 189.7p per kg and sold to 221.3p for 47kg Continentals and £105.50 for 51kg Suffolk both from Loanend, Cushnie.

St Boswells

Averages were down further on the week at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 56 clean cattle, 27 cast cows, 1506 hoggs and 133 ewes, with bullocks and heifers averaging 201p (-7.0p) and 214p (-4.0p) respectively.

Clean cattle peaked at £1388.80 from Lurdenlaw, and to 231p from Penston.

Prime hoggs were harder to cash, with a top price of £115 being achieved for Texels from Hawthornside, and 268.6p for Beltex from Waterside. Ewes met a smashing trade, with Texels from Traprain, topping the section at £133.

Ayr

The sale of 2604 sheep at Craig Wilson Marts, saw hoggs average 198.9p with an SQQ of 206p per kg.

Topping the sale was Texels from Messrs Paton, Craig, at £132 and to 238.8p for Cheviots from Messrs Parker, Merkland.

Top price in the ewes was £158 for a Texel from A Brown and Sons, Kirkhill.

Castle Douglas

Trade remained steady on the week at Wallets Marts’ weekly primestock sale where 1254 prime and cast sheep were forward.

Prime hoggs averaged 205.9p per kg and an SQQ of 209.9p, reaching a top of £111 for Texel hoggs from Messrs Hamilton, Newton, Gatehouse, and to 252.5p for Beltex hoggs from Messrs Smith, North Boig, New Cumnock.

Cast sheep peaked at £127.50 for Texels from West Barmoffity.
