Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their junior farmers club show and sale of overwintered cattle in conjunction with their weekly sale of cast cattle, store and breeding stock.

Leading the trade here at £1980 was a red roan Limousin crossed heifer from Imogen Davies of Lough House Farm, Bolam. Having been purchased from RA and SL Wearmouth, Middletown Farm, Long Newton, in October for £1020, Imogen also lifted the best gross profit of £960.

The judge, Ian Maughan of New Hall, Hamsterley, found his champion in a Parthenais crossed steer from the youngest competitor, Josh Burton of West Common Top Farm, Ettersgill. This was purchased from Lindsay Carter, Hinedon Cottage, Woodland back in October, and went on to top the steers at £1650.

Josh’s older sister, Leticia, bagged the reserve honours with a white British Blue crossed heifer which was also purchased in October, this one originally hailing from Robin Peart, Mayland Hall, Hamsterley, and went on to sell for £1540.

Texels from JR Spink, Heighington, led the store hogg trade at £126, whilst Mule ewes with twins from DW Ewin, Woodland, reached £195.
