A seasonal entry of 377 store cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale where a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Cowx, Hudscales, Wigton, topped the trade at £1800, while bullocks sold to £1700 for a Charolais from Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas.

Weaned cattle peaked at £1120 for a Limousin bull from Messrs MacDonald, Ladyhousesteads, with the same breed leading the bullocks at £1090 from Messrs Edmondson, Manesty, who also led the heifers at £1010.

Calves were topped at £440 twice for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Reed, Moss Side House and Messrs Pigg and Son, Gaitsgill.

Abbeymill produced the top priced lots per kg with a 201kg Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock at 283.60p and a 193kg Charolais cross heifer at 280p.

Elmscleugh topped the price per head at £1700 for a 608kg Limousin bullock and £1600 for a 650kg Aberdeen-Angus cross Elmscleugh.

Limousin crosses led the young bulls at 222.20p from Midlock, and £1040 from Logie, to cash in at 205.95p.

Heifers (146) averaged 241.2p having sold to 405.6p for a Limousin cross from Fodderletter, Tomintoul and to £1560 for a 414kg similarly bred entry from Achdregnie, Glenlivet.

A 514kg Limousin topped the bull trade at 219.8p and £1130 for Colligarth, Sanday.

The firm also sold 321 ewe lambs to £126 for a pen of Mules from Backmuir, Keith, whilst the 1449 store lambs averaged £73.15 and peaked at £113 for Texels from Strath Farm, Watten.
