A 13-month-old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon, attracted the top price of £2450 at the May Day show and sale of store cattle at Kirkby Stephen.

Reserve champion at the pre-sale show, it sold to the judge, Michael Wynne, Hall Farm House, Snitterton.

The judge also bought his choice of champion from Low Bank House at £1850. This was a 10-month-old Limousin cross heifer by Broadhead Rolly.

Second top price was £2350 paid for the second prize heifer, an 11-month-old British Blue cross from Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby purchased by Messrs Grainger, Kilnstead Grange, Wigton.

Limousin cross heifers sold to £2105 from Messrs Dixon, Peacock Hill, Dent selling to D Barker, Scarborough.

Other top prices saw Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sell Limousin cross heifers for £2100 to Messrs Barnett, Brinns Farm, Shap with 14-month-old Limousin cross steers from the same home making £1865.

Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £1830 for a 15-month-old steer from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby and Charolais cross heifers peaked at £1800 from Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn.

Overall, steers averaged £1335.30 (+£52.29 on the year) with heifers at £1303.99 (+£26.04).
